Lovely game, not yet optimized for IOS

I do love this game and it has the bones to really be optimized, but it is still way too glitchy. The instructions are not completely clear in English. There is no way to level select. I had an issue where my game wasn’t saved either. I know this will be a great game once it’s further improved.

The game is fantastic! It is based on a small, solo hobby board game where you gradually fill your coffee bag with perfectly roasted (or maybe overcooked!) beans, and try to make the perfect flavoured single cup of coffee for maximum points. There's some luck, but that means the puzzle is more about the layered little microdecisions to chew on along the way to set yourself up for that luck at the end. Boy oh boy, is this in need of a better tutorial. Still, buy it, though. It's awesome 👌

I love this game and the app implementation. But it seems like the "take 5, return 3, pitch 2" action is completely broken. All of the faces change when you tap on them and don't snap into the proper slots. This has been the case on all of my devices. So I regrettably have to drop my rating to 3 Stars

I love this game when it works. About 30% of the time at game end when I'm putting beans into my cup the bag shakes but no bean is pulled out. This has been an issue since I got the app and I've started to give up hope the devs will fix it. If your interested in this game I would reccomend you buy the physical version instead.

Bit disappointing really. Thought the app would keep score of the points you get, but the 'success' buttons seem disabled, so there is no scores. Other than the normal rules for the game there is no instructions for the app that would help me figure that out. Is OK for 'on the go' but the actual board game is more fun to play.

I love this game but this app was unusably bad. The ui is confusing, the tutorial is awful, and the worst part is the app gave me the wrong score!! The roast score said 14, I got roast value 14 and yet the top said I got 6 points (instead of 10) and the bottom said 0 points. The scoring was wrong!

Great game!

I’m not sure why people are complaining about this game, it’s not buggy and the randomness is fine. This game follows the board game rules and there are specific action windows where you can only do certain things. This game is a great rendition!

Outdated and buggy

I’ve been wanting to play this solo game for quite some time, but the physical box is too expensive for what the game offers. I was excited to see an app version! Unfortunately, the app has several bugs. First, it offers you three ways to play 1x, 3x, and expert. The expert option is locked, but they give you no information on how to unlock it. I’m assuming that you have to complete the achievements. Secondly, the achievements aren’t always recognized. I’ve met the requirements for a few of them while playing, but they weren’t awarded. Third, when you place a flavor token in the right hand column for an effect, it locks you out of the left hand column (immediate effects). In regards to design, the game has several user design issues. First, there are no prompts when playing that makes it difficult for a first time player to understand what to do. Secondly, the Roasting button is really hard to use. Your finger tends to cover up the options they show you when you start to drag it. There was plenty of room for them to just show 2 small buttons (roasting, roasting and cupping). Secondly, it’s a pain to constantly click on the coffee recipe to remember the flavor tokens and roasting level. They could easily identify these things on the main screen. Thirdly, when clicking to see what’s in the bag, your finger covers up the disk play making it hard to see the token counts. Fourthly, when playing the wild/joker token on a wild space it’s impossible to see the three token choices, let alone actually select the one you want. Fifthly, they ha ent updated the game to work on modern iPhones. The top of the screen is cut off by the phone’s speaker. Lastly, it’s sad that I can’t just select a coffee recipe and play with that. I’m assuming that’s part of the “expert” mode, but I may never know. That said, I really like the game! I just wish the interface was more intuitive and less buggy.

Does not save stats, cannot turn off tutorial

This game is not that great. I purchased it to see if I would like the physical board game. Well it saved me $35! This app is just poorly designed and the constant tutorial that can’t be turned off is annoying. It doesn’t save any of my scores or plays so there is no way to see if you are getting “better” at playing the game. It’s just a dull game where many of the rounds you are pulling chits out of the bag to just put them back in for the upgrade. It really fell flat for me. The positive is that it helped me avoid buying the physical copy, that’s why it gets 2 stars.

Game does not work properly

Tokens cannot be placed properly on over half the roasting board. This seems to have been a problem with the app for about a year now. This app has such potential, if only the developer made it more of a priority to fix the problems people have listed here in the reviews.

Hmmm... Not sure about this one. It sounds good on paper as you read the mechanics, but just doesn't seem to work in practice. You are supposed to be able to mitigate the luck of the bag draw, but this just doesn't seem possible enough to make it enjoyable. The tutorial is terrible and confusing. When the tutorial asks if you like to not see its parts again, it still keps showing them. I really wanted to like this, but after 15 games, I just can't. Disappointed.

How can you put a game like this on the market without somewhat easy instructions to follow??? The different parts of the game board aren’t even explained. I’m not sure how long it will take me to figure everything out in order to play. Seriously, do not waste your money!!!

Ugh, I can only put beans on the left. If I try to put any beans on the right, my only option is to cancel the action. I never get a "green tick" only the red X. Please fix, because this looks like an awesome game to play solo, if i could get it to work

Help!

I cannot get my flavor tokens to stay on the right side of the board where there are two blank spaces for the roasting bonuses. What am I doing wrong? I was so excited about this app and have not been able to play a full game. I would be glad to increase my stars with some help.

Good game but a poor App. The UI is pretty poor in this game: the in game UI is OK-ish, but is missing an undo function for those actions that don't draw from the bag. My main problem is with the rest of the App UI: It doesn't remember that I turn sound off (bad), but it does remember that I turned tips off (good, but inconsistent); registering for online just seems broken; none of the main menu items have a "press for help/info"

Terrible controls (exchange token doesn't work, no undo button, etc.) make an otherwise nice adaptation of a great boardgame nearly unplayable. It also forgets settings (like mute) between games. It's a lazy, rushed implementation.

Cannot place tokens in roasting phase

I have a similar set of complaints as a couple other folks. The tutorial is very unhelpful and the ‘more’ button is wonky. The game will also not let me place flavor tokens where they should be permitted to go. This would be such a blast of a game and I could see non-gamers getting into it, so I hope these get fixed.

WARNING: INCOMPLETE IMPLEMENTATION The rules have some unclear lines, several tokens are not clearly defined, and there is either a quirk (or error) where you cannot place a left side token if you played a right side in the same turn (NOT defined in the rules of app!). Updated: The 'Exchange' token for the end of game highlights but when clicked on just jumps straight to 'leave game'! BOOOOOO... Rules really need an overhaul, game is fun, but annoyed when there is more guess work than should be.

Great game - Glitchy app

Love the game- and the app is still fun but I run into odd glitches every so often. My biggest peeve is the darn tutor will never go away. I’m interrupted in my games constantly by the tutor telling me how to play.

Fun but feels like there are glitches

I’m new to this game. The rules were a bit hard to understand but I read the rules of the board game online and was able to piece it together. That said, from what I read, I should be able to use flavor tokens on either side of the board, at any time, as long as I can perform the associated action (right?). For some reason, it frequently doesn’t let me place a token where I believe I should be able to place it (unless I’m mistaken but I cannot figure out why, if that’s the case). Similarly, I was playing a game at one point and it wouldn’t let me place a “1” token on the upper left spot to claim the wild flavor token. I know that should be allowed to happen at any point so I do believe that is a glitch. Fun tho. If they can work the glitches out, it feels like a keeper. Also seems to be some issues in recording high scores as I complete full 3-bean games and it doesn’t seem to keep a record of those games in the high score menu.

Hitting the Main Menu button closes current game out.

Yes, after you check your current coffee card goal on a drop down menu, if you accidentally hit “main menu” is closes out the current game. Did it several times by accident. If there is a way to fix it on the game, it’s not obvious. I did not see a “reload” button like you commented on another reviewer’s complaint on the same issue.. Maybe could use a landscape mode too. Other-wise a nice looking chill game. Good Job. Thanks

Bug found

I have found a consistent issue with Sao Paulo in level one. For some reason the exchange token doesn’t activate during this level only. Please test and resolve this issue.

Love the game once I figured it out. Great solo game. The tutorial was not very helpful and watched how to play the board game on YouTube to figure it out. Also, my game doesn't start up correctly. It comes up with a board that has only uncooked beans. These brought it down to 3 stars.

Great game, mess of an app. Can't even finish a game. The pop-ups explaining what all the different spaces and tokens do are in the way constantly. It takes 5-10 clicks to get them to minimize, and then they pop right back up again. Makes the game impossible to play. I have the tabletop version and love it, this implimentation needs some serious work.

Clunky and no tutorial

Developer just copy and pasted the instructions from the physical game. No real tutorial. UI is amateurish and no real effort put into making it a good game. Feels like the end product of an Xcode tutorial.

The game itself is excellent, but there's a few issues. - instructions are horrible - as a serious tabletop gamer I found myself totally lost more than once. - tapping "don't show again" on the hints/instructions seems to do nothing as they keep popping up - accidentally hitting "close" at the end of a 3-round game seemingly has no way to go back to the menu, requiring a force close and losing the game record.

Pod cast

Love the game. Didn’t think the tutorial was very helpful but games was simple enough to figure out. Only thing is that I can’t listen to podcasts or music while the app is running. Also some times it seems like the game takes a second to process touches and causes me to touch a check mark when I was only intending to confirm I want to take the action not execute which beans to through it the trash. Very excited to have this game in my phone. Please add ability to listen to other apps while playing.

Surprisingly fun game. The tutorial/instructions have issues that made me not understand this game at first. But after watching some videos of the physical version, I got it enough to start playing the app and deducing the rest. Another annoying thing is that the game defaults to showing you the tutorial prompts every time, until you click "do not show again" TO EVERY SINGLE PROMPT. Bizarre design choice, please make the tutorial an on/off thing instead. Very fun game once you get it!

Would give 5 stars for game, however the app has glitches and shortcomings. No options for start - to mute app (you have to do it each time you run app), to speed animations. Some actions are faulty - remove 2 beans to get 2 beans from bag afterwards. Sometimes bag gets in way and you cannot select a bean (completely covered by bag outline). This was serious issue in several games when you cannot finish cup of coffee, cause you cannot interact with a bean. Hope issues will be fixed. Love game!

Steaming Hot

A lot to like about this app. I have the board game and this is a solid re-creation. Huge complaint after first game. The game miscounted my brew by 1 point. Very unhappy with this.

Good implementation, not perfect - there are some issues with fonts and non-intuitive GUI, but nothing major. For example, clicking a "change 2 for 3" cup button is interpreted as you choosing NOT to use it, and with no undo button it can be rather annoying when you misclick it, since it irreversibly ruins your score and all the work you've done up to that part. The gameplay itself is smooth, but I do miss the flavor text about the beans and more agency when it comes to choosing which bean to roast. There seems to be too much focus on competing with other folks on the internet which honestly I couldn't care less about. Fix the GUI, add an "are you sure" prompt to some of the buttons which work counter-intuitively, bring back the flavor text and put more customization options - and this is easily a five-star game.

If I am an apprentice, it shouldn't make me play advanced roasts. Watching more plays of physical game to try and figure it out.

Clumsy and Incomplete

I m familiar with the board game but even with that familiarity this game is almost impossible to get into. The rules included and the app are wholly inadequate, the tutorial is a joke. The App feels incomplete and is awkward to use.

The game itself is good. I also have the physical game and like it a lot. BUT... there is no sound in the app. I cannot login to play online, although I have an account. And everytime I complete a game with 3 rounds, the game wants me to continue the already completed game, when I start the app for the next time. DOesn't seem to be any sound in the app despite a volume button in the menu. Not very intuitive in how the menu system works. For example pressing the GAME button just brings up a beginner bean template but then you can't get out of that screen. Also can't choose what coffee i want to make, it randomly picks one for me. The game itself though is as expected, great fun, the app just needs a few refinements here and there to make it smoother.

I like this game a lot and never could justify the cost of a physical version (although Stronghold is releasing it soon so I'll probably get that). Newest version fixes my glaring issue. Before the app would lose my game if I went to my phone's home screen. Now it auto saves, now I can highly recommended this game...now if I could quit burning my beans 😁 good thing my home roasts don't have bag draws involved.

Interesting game but weak UI

UPDATE: While I still feel the UI is a bit unintuitive, the developer has politely pointed out clear work arounds to my biggest issues. The core game is interesting but without hover text to explain specific UI elements, a way to call up help in-game (the tutorial pops in occasionally to explain things, but you can't bring the help up on your own in-game), and if you ever hit "Back" while looking at your coffee info sheet, it starts a new game! Lastly, while the game features weekly leaderboards, there is no quick and easy way to see your personal best score if not good enough to be among the top players. I'll happily change my rating if these many issues are addressed.

Can’t get it to work on my Phone

Tried several times to get this working on my IPhone 11 pro max but keeps crashing. I am able to get it to work on my iPad. I have never played the physical board game but this game is really fun and I do enjoy it. Just wish I could get it working on my phone

Great port of a fun solo game!

Lovely rendition of a very fun solo board game. Thank you for taking the time to make this! Though I miss the physical action of the tokens, this is wonderful to have while waiting in line, etc! Fun game, easy to learn but difficult to master. Perfect for iOS! The only thing is the tutorial and rules may be a bit difficult for some to learn, but luckily after s game or two, things start to make sense.
