Frequently Asked Questions
Everything indies, scouts, and studios ask about AppWolf - AI-native mobile game market intelligence.
What is AppWolf?▼
AppWolf is an AI-native market intelligence platform for mobile game studios, scouts, publishers, and indie developers. We track the top free, paid, and grossing mobile games across the Apple App Store and Google Play in 30+ countries, surface download estimates with honest confidence intervals, organize every app by the category tags its developer chose on the store listing, and detect signals like chart movers and ownership transfers in near-real-time.
Where does the data come from?▼
100% from public, no-login data on the Apple App Store and Google Play. We crawl publicly-accessible store listings - metadata, screenshots, chart positions, publicly-visible reviews, install buckets, and similar signals. We do not bypass any technical controls, log in as a user, or use leaked panel data.
How accurate are your download estimates?▼
Honest answer: within 30-50% on average. No public-data-only service can guarantee tighter numbers than that. We make this a feature: every download estimate ships with a confidence interval [low, high] computed from our underlying signals (rating velocity, Google Play install buckets, chart-rank regression) plus an explicit method tag. You can always see how we got there.
Which countries and stores does AppWolf cover?▼
30 countries, tracked daily: the major markets (US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Korea, …), the big growth markets (India, Brazil, Turkey, …), and all the classic soft-launch canary storefronts (Philippines, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, the Nordics) that power the Soft Launch Radar. Both Apple App Store and Google Play. Steam, PC, console, and China-specific stores (TapTap, MyApp, etc.) are out of scope for v1 and are not on our 12-month roadmap.
How often is the data refreshed?▼
Top charts and app detail data are refreshed daily across all tracked countries. Reviews are pulled daily for tracked apps. Alert rules are evaluated on the daily data run and fire the moment an event is detected - chart rank change, soft-launch entry, ownership transfer, or a shipped update (LiveOps).
Who is AppWolf for?▼
- Indie game studios doing competitive research without paying enterprise prices for it
- VC scouts and publishing teams looking for early signals on rising games before they hit mainstream visibility
- Mobile publishers evaluating studios to acquire or partner with
- Market researchers and journalists covering the mobile gaming industry
- Solo developers validating ideas against current chart trends and player sentiment
How does AppWolf compare to enterprise intelligence platforms?▼
Enterprise platforms estimate downloads with proprietary device panels, sell through sales calls, and typically start at $10k-$30k+ per year. AppWolf takes a different path: public-data signals, transparent confidence intervals on every estimate, an AI-native chat interface, real-time alerts, and self-serve pricing from $19-$299/month. You get the signals that matter for shipping games, at a price an indie studio can expense without a procurement cycle.
What makes AppWolf different?▼
Three things. (1) Honesty: every download estimate ships with a confidence interval and a method tag, and our Breakout Watch publishes its own hit rate, including the misses. (2) AI-native: review sentiment, publisher tiers, Daily Radar briefings, and a chat assistant are built into the core product, not bolted on. (3) Indie-first pricing: published prices, self-serve checkout, a 24-hour free trial, and no sales call, ever.
What's free without an account?▼
Top charts pages (Top Free, Top Paid, Top Grossing per country and category), app detail pages, developer pages with tier classification, ownership transfers feed, chart movers (gainers / losers), and the Daily Pulse market dashboard - all anonymous, no signup, no limits. See full feature comparison at our pricing page.
Is there a free trial?▼
Yes - sign up and you get 24 hours of full Pro access, no credit card required. After 24 hours you keep access to the public catalog but need to pick a paid plan to keep tracking apps and receiving alerts. We never auto-charge anyone.
What's the cheapest paid plan?▼
Indie at $19/month ($15/month billed annually). 25 tracked apps, 10 alert rules with email digests, 1 Daily Radar per day, 5 country filters, store category tags + review sentiment overlays, CSV/JSON exports. No setup fees, cancel anytime.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?▼
Yes. Cancel from your account settings at any time. The cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you keep access until then. We do not offer pro-rated refunds for unused time after cancellation. New subscribers in most jurisdictions qualify for Polar.sh's 14-day refund window - see our Terms for specifics.
Do you offer a public API?▼
Not yet - it's on the roadmap and we're gauging demand before we build. Agency-tier customers (and prospects) can request early access on our waitlist: tell us what you'd build and we'll fold serious requests into the design. We'd rather ship an API that fits real workflows than a generic endpoint dump nobody uses.
How is AI used in AppWolf?▼
We use DeepSeek's models for three pipelines: (1) sentiment analysis and theme extraction on public reviews, (2) publisher tier classification (T1-T4), and (3) AI chat (Pro tier) for natural-language queries over the dataset. Daily Radar (Pro tier) uses AI for curated daily-release reporting. App tags are NOT AI-generated - we show the category tags each developer chose on their own store listing.
Is my data safe with AppWolf?▼
Yes. We use Supabase for authenticated database storage in the Mumbai region (ap-south-1) with row-level security, TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest, and scoped service-role keys. We do not sell or share personal data with advertising networks. Payments are processed by Polar.sh (merchant of record) - we never see your credit card number. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
What product analytics do you collect?▼
We use PostHog (EU region) for a narrow set of product events: page views, signup link sent / completed, checkout started, subscription created / canceled, API waitlist submissions, and chat-message-sent (we log the prompt length, never the prompt body). Identifier is your Supabase user ID - your email is never sent. Anonymous visitors don't get a persistent profile. We don't use autocapture, Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any cross-site advertising tracker. See the Privacy Policy for the full event list.
How do you handle error tracking?▼
We use Sentry to capture application errors so we can fix bugs quickly. Before any event leaves our servers we strip
Authorization headers, cookies, API keys, Supabase session tokens, URL query strings, and any user object - Sentry never sees your email or your Supabase ID. Performance traces are sampled at 10% to limit data volume; session replay is disabled entirely.Do you track me with cookies?▼
Only two first-party cookies: a Supabase authentication session cookie (strictly necessary while you're signed in) and PostHog's first-party distinct-ID cookie. No third-party cookies, no cross-site tracking, no ad-tech. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or retargeting cookies.
Can I track soft launches?▼
Yes, on the Pro tier. Our soft-launch detector watches for apps that appear in test-launch markets (Philippines, Vietnam, Canada, Australia, etc.) before global rollout - a classic publisher playbook for tuning monetization. We flag the soft launch and track the metrics from day one.
Do you cover Steam, PC, or console games?▼
No. AppWolf is mobile-only by deliberate choice: Apple App Store and Google Play. Steam, Epic Games Store, PC, and console are out of scope and not on our roadmap. Going deep on mobile is what lets us keep the data fresh and the pricing indie-friendly.
Do you cover China app stores?▼
No. China-specific stores (TapTap, MyApp, 360 Mobile Assistant) are out of scope. We cover the global Google Play store but exclude China where Google Play is unavailable. Apple App Store China is excluded from our launch markets but may be added later.
How is AppWolf priced compared to enterprise tools?▼
Enterprise intelligence plans typically start at $10k-$30k+ per year and require a sales call. AppWolf has no enterprise sales tier: every plan is self-serve at published prices: Indie $19/mo, Studio $49/mo, Pro $99/mo, Agency $299/mo. That makes us roughly 5-25x cheaper than the incumbents on a per-month basis, with no annual commitment required. We publish all pricing openly.
Can I integrate AppWolf into my existing tools?▼
Yes. Studio unlocks realtime alerts (Slack / Discord / webhooks). Pro adds the AI chat assistant. Agency adds white-label PDF reports. A public REST API is on the roadmap - join the API waitlist if that's a deal-breaker for you. The public charts pages are always available read-only, anonymous.
