The Apple Arcade version does support controller this is super annoying.

If you’re a Final Fantasy veteran, you’ll probably get through 80 percent of this game on auto battle like I did. This game also makes heavy use of the underground waterway between Kaipo and Damcyan, which gets a little dull. I also could’ve done without the Edward storyline, as he’s still the weakest and therefore most inconsequential character. (His hover car is missing here, and that was the most useful thing about him in the first game!) A character I had been building gets killed off near the end of the game, which forced me to grind to get through. This is an apparently low budget project, as there isn’t much new material here. Still, this game is worth playing if you’re a Final Fantasy fan.

As a longtime admirer of almost all Final Fantasy games this one is a pass. It’s got one interesting factor that a Rydia look-a-like is taking all the crystals. But you hear the same thing in different stories too many times. I lost interest during Parom’s story. You play the past and realise it’s not going anywhere. By now there should never be a replay of the past. Any items and building of characters’ power is pointless. It doesn’t seem to add to the story. It distracts the player and takes away interest. This is not a game I would ever suggest to anyone.
- knicholascarlson · v1.0.5
This thing is great! I often remote into my PlayStation to play games, it would be cool if you did support for the final fantasy games in the App Store though. Either way, solid product!
- Jake-the-great07 · v1.0.5
The game is amazing but needs controller support
- djpandafunk · v1.0.5
Please include controller support
- Dave Chambers · v1.0.5
Please enable the use of the original SNES music. Not a single musical track from the 3D version was better than the original. Not one. I’d much rather have the option of switching to the original FFIV music. If possible I’d also rather have original sprites, as the 3D was not an improvement with the FFIV world.
- AnubisElite · v1.0.5
Please have all the final fantasy on the backbone controller
- Angel.King · v1.0.5
I guess I'm stupid, I went and bought this game before confirming that it had gamepad support. At this point would prefer a refund.
- BadDomino5 · v1.0.5
I just bought a new Sony backbone to play final fantasy on my phone and it does not support. It does support other final fantasy just not this one. All I really play is street fight and final fantasy. I would love to play this one without missing most of the game because I’m to busy fingering my screen.

This would be much more enjoyable if you could use a controller for it.
- Glitz317 · v1.0.5
These addons should be apart of some bundle if need be for Data takes up space. I don’t see any reason they shouldn’t be Free. If they do cost something, besides FFIV ORIGINAL, a discount towards something else as the content was already made. (Edit: Will upgrade my STAR RATING FOR APP to 5* ONCE WE GET IT ALL, I love Final Fantasy IV & TAY just not watered down crApp Store) Actually maybe I’ll check to see if Android has a complete version instead. That’s right APPLE - you’re gonna lose customers bc your games are partial versions. Blame them or SqEnix I can’t tell. its 2022 now - JUST GIVE US THE COMPLETE GAME!!!

As many other reviews have noted, this game needs controller support. I’m hoping that since they’ve recently updated it and other games, it may be on the agenda. But considering 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 all have controller support, this, 3, and the first two need it as well.
- J..uhhh · v1.0.5
Would love to see this get an update similar to FF4 recently. Controller support and full screen are desperately needed in 2021, and this game looks to be on the same engine as its predecessor. Please don’t ignore this gem!
- DerbyDan · v1.0.3
Seeing how it’s been 5 years since the last software update. U really need to make this game play with Bluetooth controller support. Especially work with the analog controls. It’s the purpose to play games mobile Like this is work with controllers. If possibly please had Bluetooth support and analog controller. Too and the regular FF4
- Darktrh · v1.0.3
Sound does not work at all on my iPhone XR, iOS 14.3. Sound settings are on, and my sound is not on mute. Please fix. Also please adjust screen size for modern phones.
- Benny22221 · v1.0.3
This not only should have included all the bonus dungeons and bosses from previous versions of this title, they should also include the prequel episode FF4 Interlude. Not sure why anyone would want to buy a mobile game that has LESS content than much older versions. This game is incomplete and much too short.
- WJCK5 · v1.0.3
I am enjoying this version of Final Fantasy IV The after Years, although the absence of The Challenge Dungeons makes it harder and more tedious to level grind outside The Crystals portion of the game. Still, it’s pretty good. Plus, the graphics were really good.
- Mike L.G · v1.0.3
I loved the initial release on WiiWare and loved this 3D remake. Just wish they’d fix the screen size issues for larger phones and add mFi controller support.
- kevin.patao · v1.0.3
Just finished the after years and while the beginning of the game can be meh, getting to the crystals makes it more interesting. A lot of random encounters and bosses that can 1-2 hit and can kill you. RIP. Large character selection and bands. Would recommend if you’re final fantasy fan, if not I’d start with final fantasy IV
- Ashelia_ · v1.0.3
Every other remade Final Fantasy game on the iOS store has controller support. This is the only exception. Even the game before this (Final Fantasy IV) had the majority of the controller support, the analog stick support was the only thing missing, same for FF III. I extremely dislike using touchscreen controls and expected Bluetooth controller support for this game just as it is supported on your other Final Fantasy games for iOS. I will update my review and add 5 stars if the controller support is added.
- Trystenx500 · v1.0.3
This game is amazing. The story is deep, the characters are unique(except for maybe Ceodore. Literally just a cardboard cutout of Cecil. Still love him!), and the new moon phases are great! I actually have one problem though, it’s not taking any stars, but it is bugging me, why is there no voice acting? FF4 hat it, and it made me feel like the game was reality, gave it more flavor. Plus I’ve always wanted to know what Ceodore sounds like...
- BlueBoy08 · v1.0.3
Love the whole series. FF4 just happens to be my most cherished of them all so this was a no brainer for me. Loved it. Bands are great! The bonus dungeons at the end of each chapter are beyond awesome...wait, maybe that’s the Wii version but anyhow I played them both! Loved how you got to revisit stuff EXCEPT for the Waterway between Damcyan Castle and Kaipo. Having to go through there sooooooooooo many times became a real chore. Other than that, the story needed alittle more depth but great if your a fan like me!
- Absolutsynystar · v1.0.3
Played "Yang's Tale" but didn't finish; the save point I used in the game went away after hours of playing when I tried to open the game again. It reappeared after I reloaded it for some reason. Not a deal breaker, but disconcerting. There is much to love about this game, and it verges on interactive fiction, which emphasizes the storyline over the martial prowess of characters. Storyline is clever, kind of reminds me of Saga Frontier (in that you get to play several different characters, but with better graphics). Square Enix unfortunately has recently been following the lead of more notorious companies by suffocating the genre with IAPs. I hope they change this, because to many fans of this genre, that IS a deal-breaker.
- Erazrhedd · v1.0.3
Update this, PLEASE!! Come on! I paid money for this game! I can't STAND this "free" crap that's coming out nowadays! I want quality games that you only have to pay for once! It's been 2 years, UPDATE the App!!!!!
- MikeH24 · v1.0.3
I first played Final Fantasy 4 on my Nintendo Ds and loved it. I'm a dedicated PS4 player and play a lot of FF XV,FF VI. One day I was scrolling through the AppStore looking for something to play in my car. I then stumbled upon FF 4: The After Years, I bought it instantly. I don't play mobile games, but this game was the exception. I sold my Ds many years ago and I now feel my phone is the replacement for it. The graphics are also really good and crisp,so that's great. (playing games on my phone is a guilty pleasure)
- Ravenclaw Diva · v1.0.3
I like the game. It is very interesting. My only problem is what looks like a bug involving Calca, Brina, and Luca where Dance and most Jives attacks keep landing on Luca, even though Dance is suppose to work on all party members and Jive is supposed to only target enemies. Can you figure out what the problem is?
- Yoda1174 · v1.0.3
This is an awesome sequel! Someone spent a lot of time and made the locations on the game very similar to what they were in the first part of the game. I love knowing what happened to the characters in the previous story. It is one of the best written stories of the series.
- PharmGuy84 · v1.0.3
It's almost perfect! But there is ONE FATAL FLAW Luca crashes the game.
- The hjhrjheejjejwdhejrnbe · v1.0.3
I've had this for almost a year now and I absolutely love it to no end. I just wish that there was an iCloud saving feature. It'd be perfect since I'm gonna get an iPad soon and what better way to play it than on a much bigger screen
- NIB1996 · v1.0.3
This game was certainly a very very mysterious one to say the least. The way that the story line is set up is genius. Being able to pick and choose between different characters and their individual stories and seeing how they all intertwine with one another to the end is brilliant. And by far the strongest part of this sequel is the mind blowing story line. Although I must say that I was very much intrigued by the incredibly mysterious approach they took with the structuring, it got to be a little frustrating after 40+ hours of gameplay and you still don't know what the blazes is going on! But at the very last moment of the game every finally comes to a head, and I would have to say it's the biggest revelation in all of FF history, making it all worth it. Other that the slightly weak gameplay in comparison to the others, it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it. EVERY Final Fantasy fan needs this piece of the story puzzle‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
- UncleSlam Temple · v1.0.3
Before I got this game I had heard some bad things about it, but when my brother got it, I watched it for a bit and he told me about it. A lot of spoilers were said, but when I finally got it, it was frustrating. Ceodores tale is really hard and I was having a lot of trouble. But after that, the game expands into something grand. If you like final fantasy then get this game. IT IS GREAT!!!!
- carbuncle99 · v1.0.3
But can you add support to MFI joystick like the rest of all your games? Funny how it works fine on the original FF4 but not this one...
- firmread · v1.0.3
As much as I enjoy the original SquareSoft work, the rest of these reviews are correct. No cloud saving, So when I want to play on lunch on my iPhone 6, new game. SquareEnixs 3rd party needs to go back and fix this app.
