I find it very difficult to get to the next color scheme in endless mode. I find myself wondering if there’s a bug in that mode that’s making it harder than it should be. Why can I keep collecting coins? Is there a final upgrade that I’m missing?
- cypressf · v1.0.10
There’s a sort of charm and chillness I really like about this game, it’s very polished and just feels like a good vibe. Very impressive one person developed this well done!
- Cjrh190 · v1.0.10
This game leaves a bit to be desired. I paid the full price thinking it would be very in depth and unfortunately it was not. I won’t hate, because I’ve had a lot of fun playing it! If you see the preview of this game and think it’s for you, it likely is! And for what it’s worth, it is that game minus the ads that most mobile games have. I paid full price, and mind you, it’s a full quality game for the price, BUT, I wish there was more to it. 4 planets (stages/levels) is not enough. I could see a lot more out of this game, and I’ll keep it downloaded to my device in hopes that more content comes soon. I fully upgraded and “beat” the game in roughly 3 days, if not less.
- Lwjohnson812 · v1.0.10
This game is a great way to pass the time. I got it before a family trip and it made waiting for everyone to be ready to leave the house a breeze. No more bad moods. It’s also addictive. One week into the vacation we were all playing and competing for best scores or least shots on levels. Passed all the levels and keep playing them over and over. Wish they released more.
- Hijustaguy · v1.0.10
The pieces you must remove from the field start coming in with much higher numbers than you're able to clear in time before they reach the top of the screen. No matter how many balls per shot you upgrade to, you never get them at the beginning of the game; it seems you have to aquire them during the current game. This seems more difficult than the Android version.
- TheUnCoolAid · v1.0.10
Have always enjoyed this game, but for a while I’d shelved it because I’d played the campaign through and had a high score in the infinite stage that I just couldn’t beat. (I swear it was updated with a physics fix that made it just slightly more challenging in being just slightly more accurate/removed one tiny seldom triggered bug/whatever it was.) I came back to it after a few years to find my one wish — that the infinite stage could be made more colorful along with showcasing the other music from other stages — had been implemented! These days I use it as a kind of software toy, not expecting I’ll EVER beat my high score (though it’s fun to try). I just like the chaos that can sometimes be found in creating a particularly good shot that happens to be both acyclic and yet a very long path. I compete not on depth but try to see how many “touches” (times bullets hit the bricks) with every shot. Which happens to be good strategy for winning but is a much harder thing to compete with oneself at. And thinking of it now ad a software toy, it takes the edge off the inevitable crash and need to reset progress. Basically, rethinking how I approach the game the second time I’ve come to it to play, it’s turned it into a go-to fidget toy. And I love that… It might not be everyone’s favorite, but it’s a neat twist on the old “Breakout”-type gameplay, and for me it’s surprisingly rewarding in repeat gameplay.
- random9q · v1.0.10
Pretty good fun if you like this type of thing. It says as you go so you can play for One round or we can play for two hours. The missing star is because it’s a very limited. They’re only so many levels and then endless mode and that’s it. There’s no real variety or, interesting replay value except to pass time on the toilet
- AddP0P · v1.0.10
I’m ok paying a bit of $$ for a fun game, and this is that. But it took only a few days of playing to 100% the game. I know I can keep trying to dig deeper on the final level but there's not much motivation to keep playing. Would love more levels and more upgrades.
- Kyle????????????! · v1.0.10
once you reach the endless mode it is not balanced at all, definitely needs a rework.
- Zook024 · v1.0.10
I’m trying to chase down a friend on the scoreboard, but I’m stuck doing the mission. I started instead of restarting a different one. Why is there no way to abandon a game?
- sirmarcos · v1.0.10
I used to love this game. It’s a great time waster without being too addicting and requires low commitment. However, they just updated the colors of the blocks and they are terrible. I wish there was a way to change back.
- C_robbin · v1.0.10
I love this game and play it addictively. I would even love the little tic-tac shaped mascot in the corner except for his comments when you tap him. Why do his comments make him out to be such a tankie? Maybe his comments need a re-do.
- jbejaran · v1.0.10
Great simple concept that can be very addicting and endearing. I still play it even though there has been no development in a couple years. They totally could monetize this game with just some tweaks to gameplay and development of challenges, achievements and levels. Please jump back in on this game!
- Zubaz55 · v1.0.7
Simplistic, charming graphics, a cute worm (?) in the bottom corner of your screen and fun music and sound effects makes this a very enjoyable game. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long to beat it and once you’re finished there isn’t much to do except for the endless level at the end which gets boring pretty fast.
- BraveHen · v1.0.7
Might we have more levels please. A lot more!
- 1jordan1 · v1.0.7
My absolute favorite mobile game.
- Andy KZick · v1.0.5
Holedown is a simple puzzle game that balances your own strategic thinking skills against run-based roguelite progression systems to create a casual, yet very fun and fulfilling experience. The gameplay, which is best described as a hybrid between Breakout and Tetris, allows you to dominate the game the more you use your brain, while also making things easier via upgrades between runs if/when you find yourself struggling. It’s a very smooth and addicting game loop that never grows stale for the duration of the game. It’s worth far more than it’s minuscule asking price, and easy to recommend.
- DarkWolfHunter · v1.0.5
I have never reviewed an app before but I give this one five stars because I genuinely feel proud to own and play it. It’s so simple, satisfying and tricky to master that it makes for a perfect timewaster. I’ve logged many hours, reset my progress many times, and always keep coming back. I’m hopeful for a sequel with added features but for now this is a rock solid ball blaster that is easy to play and fun to master.
- Black Hole Diver · v1.0.5
This game is pretty fun the campaign took me about 4 hours to beat but after that there isn’t much to keep the player engaged. Sure there’s an endless mode but it’s just the same concept but without an end goal. The game price, I would say, is a little greedy (you are practically paying for a premium version of many free brick breaker games that are already out there) and I think there needs to be more worlds that introduce in game power ups, currently the only in game power up is the purple currency used to buy upgrades. I think there should be more upgrades in the blocks that you break that give you advantages while playing. Although I almost guarantee this game won’t be updated to add more content I think it desperately needs it to make the game more worthy of its price. I also understand that the developers think that they have a $4 price point standard for each of there games but even though these games look well polished they need more content to justify this “standard” This whole review was poorly put together and probably sounds like a poorly thought out rant but oh well 🤪
- Hehhbdeeb · v1.0.5
This game is perfect for short spurts, but I find myself wanting to play “just one more” (which turns into 10 more, LOL). It’s optimized for large phones, the file size is small, the graphics are awesome, the controls intuitive. It’s perfect for when you want something fun and lightly challenging and not mind-bending. You do have to think, but it’s light strategy with some luck involved. It strikes a great balance. No ads. No crazy IAPs. I heartily support developers like this, there aren’t enough out there. Thanks for a great game! This will be staying on my phone!
- WRS15743 · v1.0.5
Overall: enjoyable. // request: could the coins be used for temporary boosts in the endless mode?
- phonghtran · v1.0.5
Its a solid game but there is barely any content for having to pay 4 dollars for this game
- nsv jzc h · v1.0.5
Pretty fun little arkanoid clone. There definitely should have been more levels, the game is way too short (gas planet, comet, dwarf star, plenty of potential level names). Also needs a restart level option. Yes I saw the dev response with the gimmicky workaround. If you know people want it and it’s an easy fix, just add it in properly already.
- trclocke · v1.0.5
Jerks who say this is a 99 cent game are the reason the App Store is free of free games that gouge you with in app purchases and dumb subscriptions. This is a SOLID game that will give you 4+ hours of entertainment. That is worth the price to me. Ball bouncer game, but with unlocks and some minor upgrades through game play. Zero ads. Zero upgrades with money. This game s the type of game I try to support.
- One Ohm · v1.0.5
I truly enjoy this game so much that I’m playing it for the third time. It’s simple in concept and gameplay, the animation is pleasing, and the experience is a delight. It relaxes me, and serves as both a gaming snack when waiting in line at the bank, and something to enjoy when you have time for a longer play session. I sincerely wouldn’t change a thing.
- Gllo · v1.0.5
Yes, the game is kind of addictive, but there isn’t a restart button, which means that you have to finish the current game your playing, so if by accident you select a planet, star, planetoid or whatever you have to finish the current game or lose on purpose. If you want more balls, more moves or another level, again, you need to finish the current game or lose on purpose. But the worst happens when your current game freezes, kind of. Everything is still working but the ball freeze; so you can change the settings turn off the music, the sound, the language but you cannot restart the game, no matter if you close the game, even if you turn off your device, the game is unplayable. Your only option is to reset the game, which means that you will lose all your progress and achievements, you have to start all over again.
- JnCrlsRvra · v1.0.5
This game is not bad, but is short and definitely not worth 3.99. It reminds me why I should stick to free games.
- rlgon · v1.0.5
Found this because of NorthernLion and bought it right away. Pretty fun and addicting. I would love to see more content out of it. (Higher levels, different solar system, perks, idk)
- bipbopnicknametaken · v1.0.5
The game is great, but wish they would add more levels.
- BillyMc · v1.0.5
I’ve played a whole ton of this game. I love it. I do wish there was another level to it though. I’m at the end and have nothing else to do but aim for high scores. Perhaps a challenge mode? Anyway, great stuff.
- Jhines0042 · v1.0.5
Holedown is a satisfying combination of peggle, pachinko, and strategy. But it is simply unacceptable to release a fully paid premium game in 2020 that is still not optimized for, now three year old, screen standards. Having a small usable play area, with a third of my screen completely unused with empty brown borders, is constantly frustrating; Especially given the aspect ratio of this game. The bordered areas are not even touch activated to start controls. Causing the game to not only be visually small, but also requiring you to control using the middle of the screen making it unnecessarily difficult and uncomfortable to play.
- trytobereasonable · v1.0.3
fun!
- brunobely · v1.0.3
With the recent rise of ball bouncers on mobile (thanks in no small part to an absolute onslaught of advertising for these sorts of games), when I read Holedown’s description of “A ball bouncer but with some depth”, I was intrigued. And indeed it does have more depth compared to many ball bouncers! It felt less like I was just trying to make the same ideal shots over and over and that I had some strategy in my gameplay choices, but alas; the feeling does not last. Pretty quickly you’ll get to the “end” of the game which is an endless level, and very few upgrades left to purchase. The game should have had so much more than it did, and it’s a shame that the devs appear to have abandoned this game.
- BreadmanMcG · v1.0.3
I’m hopelessly addicted. But I don’t know where to see a list of best depths on black hole. I’m currently at 1320 m. Is there a way to compete against other players?
- GustoCappone · v1.0.3
Ya’ll are getting greedy. I beat this is like 3 hours. Now there is no place to go but infinite. Fully upgraded everything. Add more levels or abilities or something for that price. Also, please keep the time and service indicators visible while using the app. I hate when games take that away and don’t even use the space for anything.
- EVIL VW · v1.0.3
I didn’t love it at first, but after a long flight it really grew on me and I was hooked. Has a great balance of strategy and random chance. Figuring out the angles reminded me a lot of playing pool. It’s a mix of pinball, pool at Tetris. My only negative is that it (ironically) lacks a bit of depth. You are pretty much doing the same thing the entire game (but with more balls). I would have loved to have seen a few more mechanics introduced as I progressed like combos, power ups, etc.
- chrismrtn · v1.0.3
In this age if iCloud syncing it would be nice to play the same levels on my phone and iPad. It has been over a year since any updates so if this is not abandonware, please sync progress via iCloud to all my devices.
- Antiduplicity · v1.0.3
Really liked this game! Graphics are nice and music/sounds are pleasing. My only complaint is that I was able to finish all the levels too quickly and now only have the black hole level, which isn’t as fun.
- ajdeeelite · v1.0.3
Beautiful design! Perfect balance of fun and challenging. So much attention to detail. PLEASE make more levels!! One of my all time faves.
- soozkee · v1.0.3
I really loved this game but upgraded my iPhone twice in the last two years and lost all of my data because you removed iCloud save sync. Idiotic.
- philamour · v1.0.3
I love the game, it’s a game I find myself playing “just because”. I just wish as others have said...power ups!! Also I have 9347 crystals hahaha. I need something to spend it on
- AyeyoBcollins · v1.0.3
Fun but light on content
- Braaaannndddt · v1.0.3
Awesome addictive game. Infinity level is not satisfying though. Please add more planets!!!
- Seabase Alpha · v1.0.3
Holedown is very fun to play. The controls are simple, the art is simple (yet beautiful), and the sound is pretty good; however, this game took me very little time to complete. The worlds are cool and all, but they all feel the same. This would only be 3 stars if there wasn’t an endless mode included. GREAT BUT SHORT
- Quinn GUMMEL · v1.0.3
I really like this game. However, I’m at the endgame now, with everything unlocked, and having to sit through it counting every gem I get when there’s no longer any reason even to keep track is frustrating. When I die I just want to plunge back in.
- CrowRay · v1.0.3
The journey up to beating the game is addictive fun. Once you reach the end though it peters out. An Idea, once you’ve spent all the crystals you can maybe swap them out for temporary power ups. Chain lightning, multiball, drillball, etc.
- Revjor · v1.0.3
Loved playing this game and don't regret spending the money but it's already over. I can't believe there's only six levels! Please make more!
- mbthebulldog · v1.0.3
Love the game but you’ve left me wanting more. More levels please. I’d gladly pay for an in-app purchase of a few more levels beyond the black hole endless run.
- scudsone · v1.0.3
As many have said, yes, it’s short. It’s a very fun game while on the go or if you’re craving a game that can completed in a few hours. I found it challenging at times, especially once I first started playing but once I maxed out all my upgrades, it was pretty easy. That being said, the game is beautiful, the sound effects are very pleasing, and the music is good. I’d highly recommend this amongst all your others games on iPhone! Hope more levels/gameplay changes are on the way!
- NakumaTownsend · v1.0.3
A tiny bit more content in the way of upgrades/levels would make this game perfect! It’s truly the perfect mobile game, really hoping for a follow up!
