Hoplite is a turn-based strategy game focusing on tactical movement around small maps.
This game is designed to be hard, yet fair. You'll need to think before you act if you hope to win. Every move counts!
Quest Mode:
• Make strategical choices to upgrade your abilities as you dive deeper into the underworld.
• Earn achievements and unlock access to new upgrades.
• Procedurally generated levels give a new experience every play.
• Challenge your friends and see how you rank on the leaderboard.
Challenge mode:
• Jump straight into the action with a randomized set of upgrades.
• Try to beat the daily challenge or play predetermined challenges at two difficulty levels.
Signals: version bump ≤ 7 days + review velocity ≥ 1.5× the 7-day median. Both ⇒ Active event; version only ⇒ Recent update; spike only ⇒ High engagement.

Love it
I download games all of the time but then delete most of them for one reason or another. The ones I keep are the gems. This is a keeper. Strategy game with endless replayability and lots of content due to a long list of over 1,000 challenge missions.
4/5 stars because I believe the game could be expanded upon. There could be more enemies and more upgrades. The diversity of character builds seems lacking. You have something like a jump build, a throw build, or a shield build. But it doesn’t feel entirely complete.

Challenging but fair
This has to be one of the best games i have ever played. It is perfectly balanced, really gets your brain working, and simple but rewarding gameplay. Seems like endless challenge levels and it took a good long while to lock in and beat the main quest before the endless challenges. I recommend this to anybody who likes to feel their brain physically turning its gears it gets you there for sure

Suggestions
Hey, author! The game is great and I just got my final 20th achievement. However, I have a few suggestions (or bug reports).
1. If you make a shield bash and it kicks you back, you may end up on the stairs to the next level. But if you also got a protection from damage, it will also be transferred to the next level and will last for one more turn. So damage protection works for two turns instead of one. Seems like a bug.
2. Sword demons can stand on the exit portal and prevent you from using it after the 16th level.
3. Bombers can throw bombs directly onto the stair tile and also prevent you from using it. This happens very often.

Fortune favors the PATIENT
Can’t believe this game is still around, played it on my Android device at least 5 years ago and loved it. As the title suggests this isn’t a run n gun type game; you’ll spend more time planning than acting; be patient when progressing and you’ll be handsomely rewarded!

Broken in iOS 26 on Lockdown mode
Awesome game, unfortunately the update to iOS 26 makes the game not go past the splash screen if on Lockdown mode. Toggling off Game Mode does not seem to have any effect.

Fun but difficult
Fun game to learn and play. Lots of different moves and strategies to beat the levels. The difficulty gets almost impossible once you collect the golden ram armor tho. 15-24 enemies on the screen, no safe spots to move to. Wish it was just a bit more easy

Boring and repetitious
Not close to s 5 on a cellphone:
-Desperately need zoom (scrollable) ability to see board details.
-? should toggle allowing multiple piece descriptions. Not the silly ‘one at a time’.
-No sound!
The difficulty is just adding more (and closet) bad guys. That’s not strategy, that boring and unimaginative like dozens of like kind apps.
Worth $.99.
Chess is significantly more challenging.

The best mobile game for my money.

Surprisingly deep
I keep coming back to this game. Tons of fun with mounting difficulty, super-stable (no crashes or other problems for me), and lots of replayability based on the “build” as you go deeper. Highly recommended.

Update broke game
Currently playing on a 12 mini, and the newest update ruined the compatability with it.
The actually game board now is much smaller than before, making it harder to see/play, and the back button now overlaps with the home button bar, so you have to tap it a bunch until you get lucky and it registers, or you accidentally Home Screen.
Played this game for years, across multiple iPhones, all worked great until this update

Simple, Clean Rouge RPG
Good, but just isn’t much to play for after level 16 so it’s a very short game. They should continue to allow you to obtain abilities. Enemy unit types could use more variety as well.
Some of the rules don’t seem to function quite properly with the upgrades, e.g. can’t backstab using Winged Sandles extra space.

Best game I’ve ever downloaded
This game is great. I’ve played at least 6 hours in 3 days, and I enjoy it more now than when I first started.
It’s a real rogue like that is designed perfectly, and intentionally for mobile.

Incredible game, Agility is bugged

Highly Recommend. Worth the price!!
This game is an absolute beauty. I love the look and play style. I’ve had this game for years and love playing it on my free time at work. The only thing I wish was different, is if you could customize the character. Such as getting so far or completing challenges you get new armor or weapon skins permanently where after each death and start of a new round/game, you’d still have that armor set or weapon that appeals to you. I fell like customization of the character would really top the cake on this one. Other than that, the game is almost flawless/perfect.

Support For New Devices!
Although I stopped playing games that didn’t have widescreen support, I couldn’t bear to delete this one so it languished in my “Purgatory” folder with a (very) few other gems from yesteryear. But no more! I have moved it out of my folder of exile and placed it back on page 2 with the rest of my mostest favoritest games EVAR!

Tons of replayability
I’ve played this game off and on for 4 years. Many long droughts during that period, but this is one of the few games that I’ve never deleted from my iPhone. Roguelike nature, simple and fair mechanics, plays well on small devices (iPhone 5S). Love it, just wish there was more like it.

Very well designed
Easy to learn but very challenging. Lots of fun even when you lose. Works great on an XS Max. I really like that you can close the app at any time and it saves, so you can play in short spurts and pick it up again later. That’s great for busy people. Great job, and I appreciate a fair price with no IAP!

enjoyable at so many levels
still updating, and recently the change back to not muting my podcasts or music while playing the game spurred me to review. gameplay is deceptively simple, but strategy is inherent and going for achievements can widen the range of your ability possibilities, a challenging progression scheme. highly recommended!
