It's a nice game but sometimes there is an error especially when you're in a ranked game. The system is saying that you are disconnected from the game even though your connection is strong. And also the pokemon box is limited to 50 pokemons, it needs to be extended or just add something in the shop that the players can buy to widen the space of their boxes in order for them to keep their recruited pokemons instead of returning them to the farm.

The game's really good but its lacking a lot of options. For a mobile version of the game, I'd recommend having the option to adjust the graphics since some phones can't handle the game smoothly. Secondly, Why does the mobile version only have 3 available team slots and can only recruit up to 40 pokemon? Atleast make it expandable by purchasing through VP and not IRL money.

it's fun and easy to go. just straight up building teams and battle is great. the way you don't drop everything in the same time is a good strat. that way, pure new players can easily learn Pokemon battle without getting overwhelmed. please make sure in the future to input more items, Pokemons and unevolved forms to enable some strat like eviolite. because this advertised to be free to play, it is better to increase the max box size for f2p, make it 80 or 100 w/ simple quests. Got excited when released in mobile and got to Masterball tier 4 in 2 weeks. However I noticed some fights are rigged. I had a Garchomp empowered with swords dance, plus a life orb. I then proceed to use a (STAB) Earthquake and it was able to survive with 4% of HP. I already have the disadvantage of not playing the Generations 6 and above and I get this.

Huge Pokémon fan here, and I love the game. But I'm getting so annoyed during team selection. Right after choosing my team and locking in an opponent, the game errors out and restarts before the match even starts. Sometimes I try to force my way back in, but other times it just auto-picks for me. How am I supposed to rank up? Anyone else experiencing this after the last update? Great gameplay and fair progression overall. My only disappointment is the Box space. Free players are permanently capped at just 50 Box slots, forcing us to release Pokémon instead of collecting and experimenting with teams. Storage feels like a basic feature that shouldn't be paywalled. Please let us earn additional Box space using VP or another in-game progression system. Everything else is good, but this change would make the game much more free-to-play friendly.

The matchmaking frequently feels scripted, as I am often matched against teams that perfectly counter the team I choose for battle. Critical hits also seem far too frequent, including multiple critical hits in a row without any visible crit-boosting effects. It often feels as though my opponents already know which three Pokémon I am going to choose during the team preview phase. If you are a new player, please don’t let the bad reviews scare you away. This game is a blessing for anyone who plays competitively or wants to get into competitive Pokemon. First off, the people who are complaining about the game being boring or having no sense of adventure do not understand the significance of competitive battling and do not know that this game was specifically created to make access to competitive play 100x easier than what it used to be. It is an absolute godsend for those who dreaded playing through the mainstream games just to reach end game content to start the tedious grind for competitive team building. Moving over competitive battles to a standalone simulator like this has revolutionized competitive play and is honestly long over due. Combining that with the ability to play on your mobile device is a beautiful aspect that I think most people who have been playing competitively for years really appreciate. It’s what we’ve always dreamed of and for that a huge thank you to The Pokemon Company is in order. If you are someone who has no interest in competitive battles, then this game is not for you. Instead, please look forward to upcoming release of Winds and Waves. Next, the people who keep complaining about the game being unfair and think people are somehow cheating are just really bad at the game. After doing 50+ battles they still can’t think to do some simple research to learn why they’re losing and get better. What do you expect will happen when you go against experienced players and still refuse to learn from your mistakes after you lose? This game is not for casuals. This is a competitive game and putting together a team of your favorites and clicking buttons with no thought is gonna get you nowhere. New players will have to learn competitive strategy, proper team building structure, move choices, game mechanics, etc. There’s a lot to learn, but there are many free, quality resources available to you online to help you get started and keep improving if you are actually interested in getting good. You just have to put in the effort to learn. If you don’t like strategy games or using your brain to think then this game is not for you. Overall, it’s a great game. Yes, there will be times where you will get frustrated, especially as a new player. However, that’s part of any competitive game. If you lose a match, you can learn, get better and try to win next time.

Fun game but overwhelmingly annoying… SPEED is the only stat that means ANYTHING!!!!! Everything else is for show…. DO NOT PLAY IF YA ENJOY PEACE ONLY PLAY IF YOU WANT TO BE ANNOYED….for goodness sakes I don’t understand what’s with developers nowadays. For god sakes take out the infinite withdraws during Pokémon battles. I think it should be limited to 3 withdraws a Pokémon battle. It defeats the purpose of matchups and battling if the opponent can just switch out an infinite amount of times it’s annoying af and make no sense. Also I think Pokémon that have a nature type should only be able to use that nature type. It’s kind of annoying to go up against a dark Pokémon that’s using fairy abilities. Or an earth Pokémon using lightning Does that make sense? Fix it. Both of those things I absolutely can’t stand and it’s ruining the play experience. Otherwise it’s has the potential to be a really fun game but no. It’s maddening people just switching out endlessly. CHANGE IT PLEASE.

Great game but I have 1 concern

I think that the “Collect from Pokemon Home” feature should not be implemented in this game. I love the fact that it is not pay to win and relies more on actual skill and Pokémon logic. If the goal was to not have a pay to win aspect then also allowing entrance to preexisting Pokémon from different games seems counterintuitive to me. Things will tend to get unbalanced I feel.

It honestly lives up to the hype

I’ve been playing pokemon for almost 25 years. This is the battler that we have been waiting for. Overall, minimal bugs, reasonably FTP friendly, doesn’t overheat my phone like the TCG app does, and feels good enough on IOS that I’m fine my ex gf still has my switch. All jokes aside, if you’re new to competitive/ladder, or spent years on Showdown, this is one of the biggest successes in years from Pokemon.

Pokémon, But Big Pikachu Wants Your Wallet!

The game runs surprisingly well on mobile (honestly a little better than the Switch at times which is a bit strange). This would be a five star review if just a few things were fixed. First, having Pokémon (especially very good ones) locked behind purchase of a different game is not acceptable for a competitive game. Second, the battle pass is very short and doesn’t have the greatest rewards (even the paid tier is pretty underwhelming). However, these issues aren’t make-or-break for me (unless they lock more Pokémon besides Floette behind other games). By far the biggest issue with the game is the box limits for Pokémon storage. They are extremely limited. Even after hitting Master tier, you can only have around 100 Pokémon. That sounds like a lot, but really isn’t enough for anything besides regulation M-A. Docking two stars for issues that mainly consist of what essentially amounts to inventory space may seem like an overreaction, but it cuts into what you can do so much when you don’t transfer Pokémon from Pokémon Home (since battling is all there is in this game, restrictions when you are building your teams are extremely noticeable and how they implemented it here feels almost suffocating at times). Obviously, you can get the subscription and have plenty of storage space, but having such aggressive storage limits really rubs me the wrong way, so I don’t feel like rewarding them for that. If storage space was purchasable through VP (even if it was fairly expensive), I would have few major complaints with this game. As it stands however, this is as highly as I can rate it.

Almost excellent but still great

Pokémon Champions is definitely filled with all the exciting battles tailored towards competitive trainers like myself. The roster of Pokémon continues to grow but there is no shortage of options imo. Obtaining a team and training them is finally simplified and much easier for both new and veteran players to digest. HOME accessibility makes it even better. Since battling is the main focus here, there is little story arc which is fine with me since I’ve had plenty of that from the mainline series. It’s a great game with room to improve and grow. No major bugs from what I can tell however, a stable connection is needed for a positive experience. All of that being said, I only have 2 concerns. The first being the battle pass. The way it works as of now would be fine if the rewards weren’t so lame. Icons and tickets are probably the best rewards and that’s not a good thing imo. The Pokémon can be obtained other, more efficient ways and the cosmetic rewards are few and rather ugly to be frank. The price should be 5 USD, not 10 for what we get and even that’s a stretch. Which brings us to the second concern. The cosmetics. Right now everyone pretty much looks the same in a general sense and there isn’t much room to be creative or unique. The only way to get new cosmetics is through the battle pass and as I mentioned before, they are very few. And quite ugly. There should be new items on a steady basis, flash sales, seasonal items and so much more. Unfortunately that is far from the case here. The more personal they can make this for players, the better the experience. Great game, just not the best it could be.

Flawed for mobile

A few things for mobile would make this 5/5. 1: They need to add the ability to move Pokemon from Go to Home to champions so you can move mons without a Nintendo switch. 2: They need something like a battle tower for casuals. (What if they had challenges where you face off against AI versions of pro players like WolfeVGC) 3: they need a way for mobile players to get legendary mons (like Eternal Flower Floette). Finally! A good Pokémon battling app for mobile and switch!

I have loved Pokémon and Nintendo for many years, and when I saw the release trailer for Pokémon Champions, I was psyched when I heard that it was free on mobile devices. Since , I’ve been eagerly awaiting the moment when it was ready for mobile devices. I also got it on switch. and now it is finally ready. Phenomenal experience and I love the customization options for your character. I also swear I saw my user in one of the clips in the App Store video. One of the first Pokémon I got was Lucario because it’s been my favorite for a long time. My (Updated) Review

So, after having the game for over 2 weeks, I’ve fully built 2 teams in the game and noticed that there are a few annoying duos that are copy-pasted onto a lot of other people’s teams. The main one that frustrates me is when the opponent leads with Whimsicott and Mega Staraptor. If you don’t have a fake out Pokémon, Whimsicott can do basically whatever it wants to buff its Staraptor. Tailwind to give it a speed boost, Charm to RAISE its attack by 2 stages. (Seriously why contrary on Staraptor, it should have gotten tough claws or scrappy, or even just intimidate again.) And both of the moves have priority because of prankster. The only way to counter this is to, again, bring a Pokémon that knows fake out and then maybe you also bring mega Froslass with blizzard. But none of the Pokémon on my current team can learn fake out, so I end up getting kind of destroyed by these kinds of teams. Anyway, other than that 5 stars.

I'm glad we finally have a dedicated platform for VGC that can be played on smart devices. It's a great addition to the scene, and it’s accessible to newcomers. That said, a few things are keeping it from being 5 stars for me. 1.) No Additional Battle Formats: This is an issue many players have, especially Smogon players. While I understand we couldn't have it for Ranked Battles, a Singles 6 vs 6 format should have been available for Casual and Private Battles. On top of that, we didn't get Sky Battles, Triple Battles, Rotation Battles, etc., which were introduced in previous titles and could have added more variety to the game. I would love for these to make a comeback as quickly as possible. 2.) Only 1 Smart Device per Account: I'm sure there’s an explanation for this being a thing, but I'd love the flexibility to play on my Switch 2, iPhone, and iPad. The fact that I can't add my account across all three devices is very discouraging and keeps me from playing it far more often. 3.) No Game Balancing After Each Season: We are now entering Season 4 of Champions. Besides adding a few minutes for Regulation M-B, there's been no effort in game balancing. We've now had 4 seasons of the same 6-12 Pokemon being on top of the leaderboards, without any nerfs to said mons or buffs to the Pokemon in the middle or at the bottom of the leaderboard. To me, this is the most egregious thing about this game. I think a lot of people, myself included, assumed that since there was now a dedicated platform for competitive battles, game-balancing would happen more frequently. I get we're asking ILCA to do more than the bare minimum, but it appears we won't get any meaningful game balancing until after Worlds at the very least. There's some more that I'd like to add, such as the monetization (or lack thereof), 3DS-style graphics and animations, and lack of character and Pokémon customizations, but I feel the 3 I've discussed so far will suffice for now. Overall, I hope this platform succeeds for years to come, but these issues need to be addressed before I can give it anything higher than its current rating.

This game is Great, reminds me of an old feeling I used to have when I played an old game like this back then. Just fix a few little glitches that causes you to lag out, and more Pokemon that I don't see updates to this game and everything about this game is perfect.

The best pokemon game on mobile by far. the only problem with it is that it's laggy as hell. My basculegion's tail has missing textures as well lol. I do recommend this game tho for people trying to get into competitive! I recommend doing the tutorials and looking up viable teams to get far in rankings.

As a person who never played a Pokémon game before, I think it's pretty good. A bit buggy but it will be easy to fix, and plus, I haven't seen any interference with the gameplay. I personally like double battles since you can do 3 things better, 4 Pokémon instead of 3, have a mega Pokémon with a tanky Pokémon, and make strategies easier to use. And I like you can play for free. Easy to play and fun to tinker with.

this game is good, and definitely for you if you like 100% competitive pokemon battle games but that's not for me. sure I can win easily with Arch, Pel, Swamp, and Sin, BUT PLAYING WITH THE SAME TEAM OVER AND OVER AGAIN JUST TO WIN ISNT FUN TO ME! This game is completely unfair. Every single person just uses Tailwind so they can go first every turn and then they hit you with super effective moves over and over. Nobody actually wants to have a fair battle anymore. They just copy the same cheap tricks because they can't win without them. "Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites." As long as your favorite is Charizard or Garchomp.

Despite being a long time competitive player, this game leaves a lot to be desired for casual play. There is currently no way to host 6 pokemon versus 6 pokemon battles in Private Matches, or any way to adjust timer settings. Most competitive games online, especially fighting games such as Nintendo's Smash Bros series, gives the players options to customize their private rooms with rulesets that all players agree to, but there is no such customization found here. It's a dedicated app for competitive pokemon, and works for that. However, the game seems to have horrible connectivity issues. My Wi-Fi isn't the most amazing ever, but I shouldn't be experiencing multiple quit to menus per match often enough to be frustrating. Also has frequent errors that restart the game. FtP experience is rough, but you can just use Pokemon home and GO and trade stuff with a friend to get whatever you want. The only real issue with FtP is box space. Hope the app gets better

Loving it so far!

This game is PERFECT! I’ve wanted to get it for so long because in the 7+ years I’ve played Pokémon, I never was able to play against real people. Now that I can, it feels much more rewarding to win a battle than it would in the main series games. Plus, the recruit system is really cool too. KEEP MAKING PEAK POKÉMON GAMES! (Also please add more Pokemon and make Charizard and Gardevoir less rare, I haven’t found any since the starting selection and they are a major part of the team I’m trying to make. And ban Grimmsnarl if possible. Or just make it so it doesn’t learn parting shot anymore.)

Alright so I downloaded this game about 4 days ago and I’m currently in master ball tier in 2v2s I’m just going to let this be known now this games tutorials doesn’t do anything for the average player who just started they give you a understanding of things that you would already know they don’t teach new players how moves like sucker punch work which is priority even in master ball all I have to do is bring a farigaraf and most people forfeit if they are running sneasler or inciniroar and then on top of it they don’t have choice scarf as a visible item so a new player is obviously not going to know how it works and will be confused why their max speed pokemon gets outsped by a scarf legion or something random I feel like they should have a video play in the tutorial show casing thought processes like a 5 minute monologue you can watch of WolfeGlicke explaining things for like 20k VP so people actually listen

Great and easy

Stay two of me playing Pokémon Champions and I’m already on the great ball here. I’ve been playing it for two days straight. This is an amazing game. It’s super easy to you. Have to download it and editors developers please hear it. Hear my thing. Will you be able to add the Pokémon, violet and scarlet Pokémon? One point to improve on

It’s a good game. Would recommend. I’ve spent $0 and am in Ultra tier 3 atm. 1:1 port of the switch game Please edit ui for touchscreen instead of being 1:1 port. I have normal sized fingers and I struggle. My girlfriend wanted to give the game a try and immediately dropped the app because the interface is obviously not designed for iphone/touch screens. Also I suggest a portrait mode that is a throwback to the gameboy. Also overall ui and animations are boring. I find the front desk persons face to be extremely off putting, hard to look at. I’m not saying they need to be eye candy but it wouldn’t hurt to make them normal looking instead of an eye sore.

This game is fun but luck would screw you over sometimes

I love pokemon and battling on champions is very fun but I do get frustrated when my opponent’s pokemon dodges an attack through evasion boosts, lowering my accuracy, or an ability like snow cloak. I do get that its part of the game and doesn’t happen that often but losing due to my opponent dodging an attack will last in my memory so this game gets a 4 star.
