A Digital Board Game of Woodland Warfare
Play the digital adaptation of the beloved tabletop board game. Root is a game of adventure and war where 2 to 4 players battle for control of a vast wilderness. The nefarious Marquise de Cat has seized the great woodland, intent on harvesting its riches. Under her rule, the many creatures of the forest have banded together. This Alliance will seek to strengthen its resources and subvert the rule of Cats. In this effort, the Alliance may enlist the help of the wandering Vagabonds who are able to move through the more dangerous woodland paths. Though some may sympathize with the Alliance’s hopes and dreams, these wanderers are old enough to remember the great birds of prey who once controlled the woods. Meanwhile, at the edge of the region, the proud, squabbling Eyrie have found a new commander who they hope will lead their faction to resume their ancient birthright. The stage is set for a contest that will decide the fate of the great woodland. It is up to the players to decide which group will ultimately take root.

Not for me, unfortunately. I felt the detailed board game mechanics didn't translate to the mobile experience. The tutorial was necessarily laborious, and unfortunately felt like a barrier to the game. I suspect that won't be a problem if you already know the board game, but I was trying this as an affordable way of trying the board game out and it didn't really work for me. I also found the on-screen text much too small to read. However, it's a well-built app and clearly made with care.

An incredible game that translates beautifully to the mobile format. Absolutely worth your time and attention. My only complaint is the DLC is a little excessively priced. It could easily be half what's being asked for.

Root is one of my favorit boardgames oat. this is a wonderful adaptation of it! I will say its kinda hard to tell certain mechanics are there. like the ruins or how many cards my opponents have or what items I have crafted. nit picks but still smt
- Theodore Folkesson · v2.1.5
fun and repeatable but not boring

One of my favorite board games, and a solid mobile version. Sadly have to give it 1* since I can no longer install this app, presumably because it requires Play Integrity API, instead of Android's hardware attestation API. Shame that those of us who care about the privacy & security of our devices, and are abhored by Google's recent practices can't enjoy Root.

Root is visually nice but technically failing. Solos are ruined by incompetent bots, and asynchronous games frequently vanish. Beyond the initial price, the map feels empty without expensive in-game purchases; most factions and maps are locked behind DLC that costs more than the base game combined. With cluttered menus and high battery drain, the mobile port is costly to recommend over the physical board game..

This app is a very faithful recreation of the board game. The mechanics are very well executed, and the learning curve is, although steep, made easier through this digital medium. The art direction is gorgeous, and the way everything is animated gives every action that happens in the game life. It has good options for local and online play, too, and the single-player challenges allow anyone to grasp and gain mastery of the game. I love all of this, it's cool : )

My Pixel phone is a couple of years old and has the latest Android ... and I can't install because my device "is not compatible with this version" of Root?

Great for learning the basics of the game and the different Factions. Bots take some questionable actions sometimes, even on hard difficulty setting. The app is a great beginner's tool, and keeps me sharp in between game nights.

Very good online version of the game. Haven't seen any bugs and pretty much the same as the board game.

Great game would be 5 stars however i am unable to turn on notifications, important for async gameplay. in my settings app root just isn't there in notifications. I have root up to date (people on reddit said this would be the probelm) however it still isn't there

Root is my favourite board game, and learning each faction has to be the best part. But the digital version has issues. There’s no penalty for leaving online matches, and no competitive mode for players who want more than casual play. Also, you can get all DLCs for free by cancelling the Google Play purchase through play store, and you still keep it, which clearly needs fixing. I think a proper way to deal with the first issue is to do what Age of Empires II did with their elo system.
- Xadrian Boshoff · v2.1.5
one of my most loved games. I have to board game and all expansions, this is an awesome digital version I can play when other people are not available
- Shaun Batchelor · v2.1.5
No ranking system means that most people just leave every game and there is no consequence. This ruins the fun in the experience. Nobody cares about how they play, because they will just leave if their BS doesnt work. This has ruined the fun for me. I have to bring people I can trust if i want to play a multiplayer game, and that is a huge PITA. Thanks for ruining Root, dwd.
- Michael Haley · v2.1.5
confusing. Hopefully it will become less confusing once I learn to play? one month later.... nope, still confusing and wonky. the theme is good, but unfortunately Im pretty dang frustrated with it.
