I love classic RPGs like dungeon master, bards tale, Grimrock. This game was amazing. Just finished the main game and the expansion today. Entertained me for months. Thank you for creating this game. Much appreciated.
- Ishtarea · v2.9.5
A very fun, old school style, RPG. So far it’s a blast! Worth buying.
- TykesTuesday · v2.9.5
Any turn based jrpg/roguelike/dungeon crawler with retro graphics is a must buy for me. Couldn’t get it faster. Really well done only thing I wish the direction arrows didn’t cover information but that’s extremely petty and no big deal. I do wish I had more explanation and little guidance on classes and how it all works because every game is different. Buy it!
- Bkrenfro · v2.9.5
It’s only 3 bucks but grab a coffee instead .
- Don and Lila · v2.9.3
What is better than exploring a vast world with a party of adventurers including a minstrel playing magical songs?
- jetsetbaxter · v2.9.3
I love this game. As a fan of the first Bard’s Tale, I was hoping to rediscover that experience that was so engulfing when I was younger. Silversword did exactly that! I found the gameplay easy to handle. The graphics are cool and the dungeons are challenging. There is a fair amount of grinding (like every decent RPG) but not too excessive. Can’t recommend this one enough. One last request: Mario - make more, please!! I’m pretty sure the “Dragons” expansion was leading to another challenge (see the Forgotten Isles map). Please make more content!!! Thanks.
- Jon B Phx · v2.9.3
The most entertaining game I’ve played on the iPad. It’s really similar to old Bard’s tale games and has a depth of play that I’ve never seen on an iOS game. The extra $3 for the compendium is well worth it to support the developer and encourage more games like this.
- JayRowdy · v2.9.3
I spent two hours crawling through the App Store looking for a good dungeon crawler and couldn’t believe Silversword was way down at 140-something! I’ve reviewed Silversword before, but Apple asked me to review it again, so here goes: BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT AT THE APP STORE! Look, I see the appeal of a couple of the games above it, like Baldur's Gate, but all of them are too dark, with overly complicated interfaces and show you your characters from above. Silversword's graphics are simple but well designed, the controls are well designed, and you see things from your own point of view (first person). It’s obvious that the developer plays the game himself! It costs a cup of coffee, unlike some of the others — a great value, and no big deal if you decide you don’t like it. So buy it!!
- Omnipedia · v2.9.3
This RPG is one of the best I’ve played in in a long time. Well developed, very interesting, fun to play. I really like the idea of a multiple Charectors to develope just like the old Great rpgs that are gone. I enjoy playing it.
- Parasite infested · v2.9.1
Every time I try to go to the Shop, the app immediately crashes. Help.
- JZelden · v2.9.0
I grew up playing computer games in the 80s. This game brought back great memories. Very enjoyable.
- Phoropter · v2.9.0
For anyone that ever buys gold from the shop check your characters inventory for a bag of gold containing what ever amount you bought. Use the item and you now have your gold. I’m sure there is probably something that tells you to do this but I over looked it. As for the game gold isn’t really something you need to buy I just had a bad encounter with 7 skeletons after starting and my rock crawler died. I didn’t want to spend all my gold getting a res so I bought a bag of gold. Completely addicted to this game bought the expansion, the compendium, large storage expansion and the bank transfer. I’m all set (and I’m 9,500 gold richer after the res of my rock crawler). This game is absolutely amazing! Barely starting out and I’m already finding hidden things! 100 hours? I have a feeling it will be a lot more then that for me! This game, Dungeons of Chaos, The Quest (and expansions), Quest Lord , Pathos and Lootbox are my favorites for mobile.
- ObiBenDavid · v2.9.0
That little window is actually the whole amount of world you see it doesn't get any bigger, that text screen is usually just empty. I deleted it after playing five minutes.
- Joecugo · v2.8.3
If you enjoy Dungeons and Dragons, Wizardry, The Bard’s Tale and similar, you will LOVE Silversword! I start a new game every year, just to replay with different character choices and strategies…and I have been playing this on and off for 11 years! Terrific story, awesome game mechanics, and amazing journey support from forums moderated by the developer! I wish a million people played this, so we could support the developer to make a follow up or another expansion! My dream would be this game allows for multiple players to play online together…one day Mario…get it and start playing - you will love it!
- DRose Triumphant · v2.8.3
This is @chrlpolk from the Silversword forums. Yep, I’m running through this game again! Just as fun as the first time through years ago.
- Charles is Doing Fine TY · v2.8.3
Definitely brings back nostalgia for the old Bard’s Tale. Fun game so far. Beginning is a little tough if you take the random characters. Also choose the “modern” mode instead of classic. Super A+++ would buy again! Only thing is that online mentions a compendium to buy, and I can’t find where in the app or app store to buy it. 🤷♂️
- mcse3010 · v2.8.3
Great game, interesting story and characters, fun items and spells/skills, and many areas to explore.
- Catalpa112358 · v2.8.3
I just discovered this a few days ago and have already played for hours. What a beautiful tribute to my favorite game ever, Bards Tale. Thank you!!
- Awsedrftgyuh · v2.8.3
This is an ABSOLUTE gem! Im planning on purchasing EVERYTHING in the game to support this dev. Also, is there a Donate button? As a huge fan of Bards Tale, I see something way better! Thank you!
- Clemjay · v2.8.3
I rarely write reviews, and I’ve enjoyed this game for years without writing one. If ever an app deserved a positive review, this is it. I’ve played it 3 times now and am coming to the end of an adventure I started almost 6 months ago. I’m bummed… would love to keep it going, but now I know enough that the next time when I play Legend mode, I’m going to have a blast and create the most crushing characters ever. Seriously, if you love old school RPGs, you haven’t played the best one ever until you’ve played Silversword. It’s simply the best game I’ve ever played on mobile.
- Davethedaring · v2.8.3
…with a surprising number of the same problems Bard’s Tale had. (The Bard is an almost-required member of the party, but, just as in BT, he is also next to useless in combat, except as a tackling dummy. Bards in full plate? Thieves are an annoyance for most of the game but can’t be done without. And so on.) Still well worth playing.
- Adam's Apple · v2.8.3
Love it. Played BT on my C64. I’ve been looking for it again for years. Excellent game.
- Mark S10 · v2.8.3
I played the original Bard’s tale on the Apple IIe and C64 in the 80’s. Silversword definitely scratches that nostalgia itch. Very well done!!!
- Wyrmrender · v2.8.3
Mario built a truly amazing game bringing elements of all my classic favorites (Bard’s Tale, Wizardry). I want more!!!
- curnutted · v2.8.3
Lots of fun goodies and monsters galore
- Grognard Lad · v2.8.3
This game brings me back to my younger self and games I enjoyed that took a lot of patience and some thought. I decided to try this after so many years of more hectic gaming (mmo’s etc) and I’m enjoying it very much.
- Gamerprooo · v2.8.1
Played Bard’s Tale way back in the day on my Commodore 64. This is a great throw back game. I bought it years ago to play on my iPad and completed the game and now I see there have been some additions to it. Also I now have an iPhone as well so I am back playing this game again.
- TJMac6886 · v2.8.0
Took me back to old games of wizardry and might and magic. Old school D&D.. love it and thank you for putting it out there. Played shen you first developed and started playing again this week. Wish there was more like this out there.
- SamdogMc11 · v2.8.0
Can’t say enough how much of a gem the olde school RPG is. Love everything about it. I wish there was a second game after this one.
- Drydorn · v2.7.5
Well designed well conceived Maximizes the fun of a classic RPG while reducing the time consuming drudgery
- f gfbht · v2.7.5
Enjoying the oldschool feel of D&D and RPG’s of the early 80’s put to screen. Bought the game back when it first came out but got so busy with LIFE that I didn’t get to finish it. Started over from scratch and loving it. Keeps my iPad interesting besides for the usual fare. Thank you. 😎
- Ruffman68 · v2.7.5
I was looking to replay my childhood favorite, Bard’s Tale series (which I own on PC), though wanted the convenience and portability of my tablet. On a whim, I decided to see what was out there. I cannot say enough how ecstatic I am to have come across this absolute gem of a game! Major props to Sir Gaida! I couldn’t have imagined a better CRPG fit to feed my jones! I bought the compendium as I felt that I underpaid for the game itself! If there is an option to obtain a paperback “manual/compendium”, a la the old school Destiny Knight days, please let me know. I’m sure there are many of us gamers that would prefer pencil / paper materials, over e-manuals, to aid in our questing. ZZGO!
- pharmaceutacrew · v2.7.5
As someone that just loves the old style RPG games, this is definitely one of THE best I’ve played in a long time. I absolutely would recommend especially if you like the original computer rpg games. I’d give it 6 stars.
- Zorro Rozic · v2.7.5
One of my all time favorite gaming experiences. This is the perfect marriage of old and new. No hand holding but also no needless regression to obsolete mechanics. Nostalgia games usually wear off for me but I kept at this one for over 100 hours. The expansion was a thrill and I look forward to more.
- JusticeMann · v2.7.5
A poorly implemented rip off of The Bard’s Tale. Every change from that game that the creator has made has resulted in a worse game. Not worth purchasing.
- MoneyTimeBlog · v2.7.5
Fun old rpg style game Got spoiled by auto maps tho I change my review, there is no way to rest and heal That makes it unplayable
- Rankirk Ice · v2.7.5
Isn’t displaying full screen on iPhone 11 Pro but otherwise solid.
- DeLargest · v2.7.5
If u like Bard’s tale and Wizardry you will love this game.
- ahab345 · v2.7.5
I hate paying for games. This one doesn’t require a vampiric pay to play.To be clear you must buy it but after that...have at it! The intricacies of the game mechanics can be explored if you wish, or you can just loose yourself in the story. Either way it is a whole lot of fun. A perfect blend of min/max character evolution and flavour development. The only limitation... is your imagination. Extremely well done.
- Sequuitor · v2.7.5
I like the old-school RPG you on this game just the voiceover is it OK can you improve it and have a hint function in your game
- Ssj vegeta · v2.7.5
Really wanted to play this, but when I encounter the rats the game just stops. I can click the move buttons on and off and bring up the settings, but no other input works. Anybody have this issue?
- Mojambo · v2.7.4
I totally agree with other that this game has the classic RPG feel. I’ve played all of the old school games in the past. I got the game quite a while ago and played it through the first beginners quest but then set it down for a while. I’ve looked and tried other game but couldn’t find anything else that gave me the old school feel. I just recently picked the game up again and find myself not being able to put it down. Is there grinding? Yes, but that’s part of the classic feel. I also like the feel of leveling up your characters trying to get the best stats possible. One question, with the new game feature am I able to play multiple games at once or will I lose the game I’m playing if I start a new one? I want to thank you for creating this classic masterpiece and hope you continue to grow the story.
- Winzarbob · v2.7.3
Good price, lots of retro fun, with no In-game purchases or nags. Will keep you busy a long time
- EDM-52 · v2.7.2
This game as everyone else has said is similar to many old school rpg. I looked through dozens of games trying to find a game just like this! WELL WORTH a mere $3!!! If you are of the generation 2000 and after, you may not appreciate a game of this caliber. This game doesn't have the graphic flashes that would send an epileptic into shock like perhaps the young generation craves. This game has that classic rpg feel to it, that seems to have disappeared with the invent of the smart phone! Create your own group of characters' race and profession; dice roll over and over to get the perfect stats for each character; and roam around trying to survive and collect loot! One word for this game: ADDICTIVE!
- Strider Wolf · v2.7.1
I finished the game a number of years ago, such a great game, amazing nostalgia! Found out about expansion decided to give her a go once again. Spent the last month getting to the gate and now I have to find 10 fiery gems? What are those??? Search online, the first thing I see, “hint: make sure to keep you diamonds and rubies if you want to enjoy the expansion.” NOOOOOOOO!!! I end up just dropping them, now I need them? Love the game, no way I can go through again just for gems... am I screwed??? HELP me Mario, you’re my only hope!
- z-myster · v2.7.0
Was looking to see if someone made a Wizardry app and found this. This is a perfect substitute!
- Sloop dog · v2.7.0
I am a blind user just getting into gaming after using the iPad for several years. I bought this game because I find the storyline intriguing and the game was listed as accessible with VoiceOver. This is true mostly but ... navigating is still tricky. I’m playing this game on a hardware keyboard, by the way. Please include descriptions of the immediate surroundings that the player is moving through so that a blind player is aware of his or her options when walking about. That way it might be possible to navigate around and avoid being stopped by too many obstacles. Other than the navigation problem, and some difficulty acquiring gold for the characters, I enjoyed the gameplay once I finally managed to get where I was supposed to go. Hi: I received your response. I should have made it clear that I was only offering suggestions, not criticizing what you have done on the game. The amount of work that goes into games like this means that a good game is just as much work to put together as a good book. Your comment that you had not designed a game for the blind was relevant, however. I personally was never under the impression that this was a game designed solely for the blind; I assumed it was a game designed for everyone, and that you had included VoiceOver support to make it accessible to a wider audience. So, I don’t think it’s necessary to remove VOiceOver support; having a mainstream RPG that everyone can enjoy regardless of vision or lack thereof isn’t something to be taken lightly. Best to you, Tayo Bethel
- Omowal`e · v2.7.0
After hearing that this game received improvements for VoiceOver support, I was eager to try this out. Coordinates are an okay thing to have, but only if I know what's around me. Not just the exits, not just what kind of floor I'm standing on, but access to the map so I know where to go. If this wandering around aimlessly is what sighted people have to go through as well, then fine, this game isn't for me. But if the first 15 minutes of the game are easy for sighted gamers, then yes, the map should be made accessible, or an explanation of things and places on the map should be given. Also, it is possible that I've missed something important, in which case I'd be grateful to know what I've missed. But for now, this game isn't one I can recommend.
- devinprater · v2.6.9
People buy Nintendo to play Mario and Zelda. They buy Sony to play Uncharted. And if they’re smart, they’ll buy Apple to play Silversword! I have played a lot of games on my iPhone. Mostly RPGs. Dungeon crawlers, CRPGs, JRPGs, ARPGs, roguelikes, puzzle and board games, CCGs, the list goes on. To be sure there are some strong ports on this system (Baldur’s Gate 2 for example), but there is no better native iOS game than Silversword. PERIOD. To be fair, this is mostly a rip off of original Bard’s Tale. If you like BT then you will, unequivocally, enjoy Silversword as well. Still, developers have been ripping off BT for decades, yet NONE of them have done it with the precision and polish of Silversword. Not in any year, on any platform. This is all the more surprising since, frankly, mobile is not a platform known for its high quality releases. Which brings me to my final point. Dev... any plans on a PC port?? I think your target audience is not really on iOS. You would definitely have a market on Steam though, maybe even better on GOG since that’s where many of the classics live these days. Silversword definitely compares favorably to many of the indie dungeon crawlers in the $10 ~ $20 range. Just something to think about... Thanks for all your hard work on this absolutely fantastic game. :)
- Wtf8735 · v2.6.8
I LOVE this game. Classic adventure... NO ADS NO REQUIRED PURCHASES NO B.S. Some with the attention span of a first-grader may find the text game “boring”, so you kids can skip it. The rest of us will highly enjoy this beautiful text adventure. Thank you Mr. Developer!
