About
The decade is 2000. The dot-com bubble is about to burst, your studio is a garage with a beige Power Mac and a screaming dial-up modem, and you have one big idea and barely enough runway for a single launch. Build a digital studio from nothing. Hire creators, editors, and researchers. Ship projects that ride every wave the decade throws at you β Flash games, blogs, a social network nobody asked for, a podcast, a YouTube channel, and finally an app for a brand-new iPhone. Move work across a Kanban board from pitch to launch. Watch your operation evolve from a garage on dial-up into a real company with an office, a foosball table, and a server room that runs too hot. Try not to flame out before the exit. Part strategy game. Part idle. Part workflow sim. Part love letter to the decade that put the internet in everyone's pocket. WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT β’ Your Choices Matter β Specialists or generalists. Crunch for a launch-day bonus, or slow-burn for a 5-star release. Hire fast and torch your runway, or run lean and invest in MacBooks and Aeron chairs. Prestige early for a few legacy points, or grind deep for the full haul. Every run asks a different question. β’ Aqua & Web 2.0 Aesthetic β Glossy gel buttons, pinstriped windows, brushed metal, and that candy-coated shine. It looks like the first time you ever booted Mac OS X. In a good way. β’ In-Game Achievements β On top of Game Center achievements, more homage to the 2000s. β’ Events and Multipliers β Random events from the decade that boost (or tank) your revenue mid-run. The bubble bursts. A post goes viral. Your server melts under the traffic. β’ Easter Eggs β Eight hidden secrets, all pure 2000s. The spinning beach ball. The Konami code. All your base. A music video you'll regret clicking. Find three to earn your stripes. β’ The Bidding War β When the buyer's term sheet hits the table, the whole decade comes down to one call. Sign now and lock it in β or push for a bigger number and risk it all. Squeeze just right and the offer goes blowout. Push too far and the buyer walks, leaving you a fire-sale. How greedy are you feeling? β’ Thousands of 2000s Headlines β The iPod drops. Wikipedia goes live. MySpace tops the web. YouTube's first upload. The iPhone keynote. The crash of 2008. The stuff that rewired a generation. β’ Kanban Workflow β Research, build, test, ship. Manage projects across the board like a producer who's really into The Postal Service. β’ Build Your Team β Developers ship. Designers polish. Researchers chase the next big thing. Project Managers keep the whole launch from imploding. Hire smart, level up skills, and equip your crew with MacBooks, dual monitors, and an iPod each. β’ Prestige System β Hit $1,000,000 and complete a Volume. Start your next run with permanent legacy upgrades that pull your strategy in new directions. Revenue Boost or Inflation Shield. Quality Boost or Fast Learners. There's no correct order. There's your order. β’ Speed Boosts β Red Bull, cold brew, and a fridge full of energy drinks. The fuel of startups. Consumables for a temporary push. An office dog for permanent motivation. Or upgrade your dial-up to broadband. β’ Dial-Up to Broadband β Watch your studio evolve from a garage on a 56k modem to a company shipping to millions. Your arc mirrors the decade's defining shift. β’ NO ADS. NO ENERGY GATES. One optional speed boost. That's it. The first Volume teaches you the ropes. Volumes 2 through 10 are where you figure out what kind of founder you actually are.
