This is the best point and click game out there. The art is stunning, and Wardruna does the soundtrack— top tier. Plus it teaches Norse mythology. Gorgeous game, all, I sincerely hope to see a follow up to this soon.
- VP153 · v2.0.3
Loved this game. Gorgeous art, story and characters. Game play is just the right amount of challenging. If you get stuck, though, hints are built in to the game. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a Myst-like old timey game.
- LoveAdventureGames · v2.0.3
I seem to have encountered a bug. There are puzzles that are obscured until you find a way to reveal them, but my game seems to have this bright white bloom covering everything so even though I have met the conditions to be able to see these puzzles, I can’t see what I’m doing. Some of them I was able to brute force, but the last one doesn’t even seem to function properly. Very disappointing, I was enjoying this game. Such cool art and concept.
- Pluckysquirrel · v2.0.0
Idk if it’s just me but when you get to the bit where you have to change the figures on the ice rune tablet to match the ones on the tapestry, the spirit vision doesn’t help me see at all. I tried changing my display options to brighter or dimmer but nothing helped. The whole screen is still completely whited out and I can barely just see the outline of the feet for the first character. I tried brute forcing it but I can’t even see where the other figures are standing to know if I’m not just tapping on the same one. I wanted to like this game but for $5 I’m seriously disappointed. Also, the hints menu scroll doesn’t work and is super glitchy.
- Zan420 · v2.0.0
I can’t see under the ice to solve puzzle. I tried changing display light and didn’t work so I can’t finish the game. I like it so far.
- lVJC4EVR · v2.0.0
This game could have been much better, but the ice on the rune stones was too bright, which made them impossible to see. I had to use a walkthrough and guess the positions on the stone to tap for the raven and wolf rune stones, and I could barely make out the correct weapons on the horse rune stone. It’s a miracle that I managed to complete them. Otherwise the art was very good and my primary complaint is that the game was too short.
- JeansDenim · v2.0.0
I love the overall concept and execution of this game. The story is interesting, it stays true to Norse mythology & the production value is excellent. The music and voice work blew me away, I was not expecting that from a $5 game! That being said, some of the puzzles were confusing in their execution, which made me feel lost at times & reliant on the included hints. I still give 5 stars however, as the hints were included for free & unlocked as I played. Great job, hope to see more in the future!
- fartparty42069 · v1.2
To be fair, the graphics and interface are undeniably attractive; aesthetics hold no ground however when the rest of the game falls so flat. Beyond it being inordinately boring with unnecessarily lengthy and dramatic dialogue, there’s this constant bane of wondering what to do next... and early on you realize that you don’t care what to do next because you’ve completely lost interest in this puzzle-less nap. I also truly disliked that the game itself doesn’t fill your screen- inventory and visuals are so small to begin with so not having the game stretch to the full width of your screen does it no favors.
- hosewives · v1.2
Some games are real art and immerse you in a different world. Frostrune is one of those. The puzzles were not all that hard but thoroughly enjoyable to play. I didn’t feel cheated as some have said although it didn’t take me too long to finish. I like the way the story developed. This game embodied what I love in adventure games, immersion in a different world and puzzles.
- Abundant Grace · v1.2
It was buggy tbh. for a while there was a thing that wouldn’t let me finish past the horse level—I’d get the thing right but it would crash out, so i deleted the game, mad at myself for paying for it. but i came back to it and manages to finish it and wow. the story was so simple but effective and all the side puzzles served the main point of the game, and you could really just click around and look at stuff. the sound is beautiful! the ghosts were A+—whoever was singing those voices, thank you. The art is stunning, wow. What a gorgeous game. over all I’m really happy I came back to this.
- temporary_insanity · v1.2
This is a very high quality game in almost every way. The story is excellent, especially if you like Norse mythology. The setting is mysterious and a little creepy at times. The sound, music, and voice acting were well done, and the spectre vision was very cool. Overall, I really enjoyed the game, especially the fact that hints came with it. If only it was longer, but it was still long enough to be a good game.
- DelleeComeOn · v1.2
I was disappointed to read some lackluster reviews of this game—but thankfully they didn’t dissuade me. I’m so glad that I purchased and played this game, as it’s a point-and-click adventure in its own genre. The puzzles are creative and just challenging enough (thank goodness for the in-game hints), the music is haunting, and the artwork is exquisite. Best of all, the world is truly immersive, with the perfect synthesis of storyline, artwork, puzzles, and atmosphere. I’ve played A LOT of games, and the list of 5-star winners is limited to The Room series and the Rusty Lake series. Thanks to The Frostrune, I’ve added one more game to that list?!
- SmartyMartyMartelli · v1.2
Nice puzzles and flow. Not sure if it’s $5 nice, but nice nevertheless. It would be awesome if there was a soundtrack option, or mini-game just to play around with the vocal melodies and combinations therein. I often Play the game just up to the singing part and start again to hear it. Hearing the men belt out the operatic folk tune gives me chills. Multi language option is awesome too. (Music option = 5 stars from me)
- Revmat · v1.2
Figured out the sound issue. Great art and story! Like old Myst. Only cost a cup of coffee!
- some wino on the street · v1.2
I enjoyed the game, but it took me about 2 hours to complete the whole thing. I was really hoping it would last longer. The graphics are cool and the music/sound effects are awesome, but there should be more of all of it for the price.
- rainman8811 · v1.2
Beautiful ‘spirit world’ art and graphics, intriguing story line. Enough of a challenge to make you think, but not frustrated. The Norse mythology is faithfully and wonderfully presented. Just a beautiful game. I loved it.
- Tlago · v1.2
I liked this game a lot, particularly some aspects of it and would probably give it 4.5 stars if possible. The story is fresh and interesting, the art is generally wonderful, the music and spoken Norse (especially the Norse) and the interesting use of spirit vision mode all really add to the atmosphere and "credibility." I didn't really need the hints but, having read about it in a couple of reviews, I decided to check it out and I agree it is a good system. If you're stuck on something, or don't want to take the time to search all over for something you might have missed, you can get a quick hint to set you on the right path without actually, usually telling you exactly what to do and without giving away too much. Because I liked the game so much I thought I should lay out the couple of things that made me drop my rating from 5 to 4 stars were 1) the game is too short. The good aspects of the game almost outweigh the lack of length but not quite. 2) There weren't enough puzzles and they were generally simple (though kudos to the devs for requiring spirit vision to work out some of the puzzles and I really liked the rune stone system). The couple of puzzles that weren't very straightforward were almost too obtuse IMO. The example I can think of it is the final one (spoiler alert) with Naudigastir's tunic. I don't know if I would have figured out this one if I hadn't already seen the patterns on the wall in the witch's house. Figuring how to put the pattern on the loom was trial and error and not immediately obvious. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here but that's how it sruck me. 3) The price of the game is another small issue. The stmospherics and art almost outweigh the high cost for a game that's so short but, again, not quite. So, all things combined, I dropped from 5 to 4 stars. As stated above, would give 4.5 if could. I can heartily recommend this game, though, especially if you can get it at a discount, and would love if the devs came out with another (especially if it was longer; or added chapters to this one)! This was one of the most enjoyable point-and-click adventures I've played because of the story and atmospherics, etc; not just a redux of all the others you see.
- cuzitsthere · v1.2
Other than the price, I loved it. Great storyline long gameplay unique puzzles and I am sad there is not another to play like this. However, I think $5 is a little pricey.
- Smurfette2323 · v1.2
I loved this game. For anyone who likes puzzle and point and click it’s worth every penny. The music, the landscape, the characters and story, all beautiful. Thanks for keeping me intrigued during a cold Saturday afternoon.
- Missy2278 · v1.2
The is beyond criticism From the music to the sound effects to the game story Deserve more than 5 stars
- MuhammadBA · v1.2
OK, just finished the game. The mood was great, the graphics and the music were top notch. The point and click (tap?) mechanics well known, with the good and the bad. The story was interesting but not overly captivating, it didn't elicit any strong emotions, I didn't feel invested in the main character nor the island. I didn't quite understand what the end goal is. What threw me out of the game were the obligatory moments when you can't make any progress because you missed something. In my case at first I missed that you could alter the warriors on the rock (e.g. couldn't see that some elements of the vision are playable) so it took me a long while (and a hint!) to overcome this. The other case was that I missed the ore nugget and so I spent a large amount of time rerunning all the screens looking for it. In the end, I had to use a hint again. All in all, very well executed game but I guess there's a reason Myst is no longer being replicated 🙂
- Ambv · v1.2
I had this game recommended to me. There is a lot I like about this game. The music, and sounds are ethereal and really out you into the world. The voices (English subbed) were great. They really set a mood. I enjoy this style/format of a game. The storyline is interesting, and pulls you in. I read some other reviews of difficulty navigating. I had no such issues. Maybe they fixed them? I found navigating to be very intuitive and natural. Puzzles were on the easy side, but very enjoyable. They were very formulaic. There were a few puzzle formulas. (Ie matching patterns, remembering pictures, lining up things, etc) but there wasn’t a LARGE variety. I checked out the hints section and really like it. If you are stuck on any one thing, hints are locked until you solve it, so you aren’t spoiled on everything. Overall, it took me a little over an hour to play. I don’t quite think that amount of gameplay is worth $5. I would totally pay $2, but for $5 I expect a little more challenge and more in game time. For $5 I also expect a little more variety in puzzles with some varying complexity, ie multi-step puzzles, and different styles of puzzle. If they came out with another game, I would be interested, but I would probably wait to read a few reviews to make sure they have more content before buying.
- Slacks Ally · v1.2
I love this game. My only grumble is, thinking it was longer than it was, I finished it in just a few hours by accident. I keep checking back to see if there have been any updates and/or more chapters/content added. If they do, everyone around me will be deaf from my squee of delight. I plan on replaying this in Icelandic after I learn a bit of it to help me learn more.
- JasmineDCole75 · v1.2
With a bit of creepy, to give a chill...perfect for the Norse theme. I’m a big fan of p & c and room escape games. This is a good one.
- VirginiaVetMom · v1.2
I love it, it’s a beautiful game, has a great story, and everything works perfectly in the game! Ive even played it a few times already, I hope you guys come out with more like this! Great job!
- Birdy24eva · v1.2
I so enjoyed this beautiful game. It was challenging but the hints were helpful when I got stuck. I really enjoyed the graphics and sounds. I highly recommend.
- Koop6534 · v1.1
I really enjoyed this game. It took me forever to finish it, but it was definitely challenging and worth every minute. Thought provoking and beautiful imagery.
- Jillana1 · v1.1
I didn’t see this in other reviews, so maybe it’s a unique problem? I am having trouble progressing through the game. Either travel isn’t as instinctive as I’m used to (tap the top of the screen to move forward, bottom to move back) or there is a bug. It keeps stepping back even when I’m tapping the area I want to move into. Second thing — and this is a dealbreaker for me, because I often play while listening to a book or music — you can’t turn off the sound. I really hate that. Graphics are pretty, and I love the Norse theme ... just wish the game had a few tweaks.
- AbbyJD · v1.1
This game was a lot of fun and the graphics were amazing but it was too short. I hope they create new chapters. There was a similar game out last year that I thought was from Snow Cannon also. I deleted it to make room and now it’s not available in the store anymore and it’s not in the cloud either.
- Yardeniya · v1.1
Graphics are great however puzzles are not intuitive and three of us had trouble doing it using their hints
- Dardar28 · v1.1
Great art, great story, and even some great music thrown in too. A tour de force and all I look for in a game.
- Jlk3 · v1.1
If you like point and click adventure games, you’ll love this. Very well done and the Norse theme is very accurate and different from your typical medieval point and click games. I didn’t want it to end.
- AnApparition · v1.1
Simple graphics match the tone of the game. Complex story line and puzzles. Audio is pleasant and adds to the mood of the game. Loved it!
- Tib in SC · v1.1
It's far to slow and frustrating. You spend so much time finding things it's not a "puzzle"
- iDenise79 · v1.1
I’m a fan of point-click adventures. This is one of the best I’ve seen. The puzzles are simple but challenging enough to maintain interest. However it’s the design that really makes it. I’ve rarely seen such detail and thought put into the visuals and music on these sorts of games. It’s a compelling tale told very atmospherically. Well done.
- ARothmanMusic · v1.1
I loved this game. The art, music, and voice acting are top notch. Really professional quality. The story is simple but engaging, as you unravel a mystery connected to Norse mythology. The puzzles are just the right amount of challenge. Nothing too hard but still satisfying. I finished in about 3 hours. Overall, the game’s unique Norwegian setting and atmosphere are the biggest selling points. I highly recommend it!
- Gimmelston · v1.1
Played in one sitting, very enjoyable and well thought it. Would definitely buy a sequel if they made one. Quality, quality quest.
- akahamlet · v1.1
I found this to be totally worth the five bucks. I got through it without using hints, but I did have to leave it for a while and come back to it at times. If you're looking for something that's not the standard shoot 'em up, try this one.
- Amende@Tahoe · v1.1
Liked the graphics, puzzles are not too difficult, not too easy. If you like point and click adventures check this one out!
- Alexey_Kor · v1.1
Got this app after seeing it listed in an article as free for a bit. Overall, wouldn’t pay the $5 for it. However, someone else mentioned pricing at $2, which I would totally pay for this. Really enjoyed the game. Someone left a comment about needing a guide open, this game is WAY too simple for a guide! The hints are more intuitive than what people claim. And the nice thing is that you really can get by without them. Definitely waiting for the dev to create an expansion. I agreed the game play involved quite a bit of back tracking due to the small environment. There’s no need for a map of the island, the layout is too easily memorised. I would like to see a larger environment for the next instalment. And definitely more lore/back story — maybe even an explanation as to the storyline of this segment.
- Cars are heavy machinery · v1.1
This game was obviously made with care. The atmosphere and the inclusion of Norse culture make it especially immersive and more interesting than the average point-and-click, and the puzzles stand out too. The hint system is helpful and unobtrusive. The art and sound are beautiful and haunting. I found it quite relaxing to play, death and malevolent spirits notwithstanding.
- rowdymouse · v1.1
Love this game! Very challenging but also provides hints if you're too stuck. Brain yoga, I love it! More levels please Dev!
- DesiriaB · v1.1
The best puzzle game i can get free!
- Hgduxshjfdujhfz · v1.1
This game was fantastic. It was challenging and hard in certain places but not so hard you would want to give up. It took a couple hours to get though it but I enjoyed every minute. Graphics were fabulous, no commercials or interruptions of any kind. We just need more games like this. Can you make more games???? You all are amazing. Thank you for such an awesome game amongst all the crappy ones out there! 😊🎯🎈
- Lolak33 · v1.1
I loved every second I played this game. It's extremely relaxing but a very intriguing story and the scenes and music were phenomenal. I would've liked it if it was longer but it's still a great game nonetheless. Please make a sequel.
- Nura Shadow · v1.1
This game was very well crafted; beautiful art work and engrossing to play. Great storytelling. Short but enjoyable the whole way through.
- 5838/ · v1.1
Great graphics. Good story line. Hoping for a sequel as I really enjoyed playing this. One of my favorite games I've played this year.
- Justmarj · v1.1
It feels more like watching an interesting story than playing game
- parrotlt · v1.1
I completed this game way too quickly given the price. Also, although the story was charming, the animation was crude, and not in the stylized way that makes other games noteworthy (e.g, Year Walk). The shortness of the game, not terribly hard puzzles, and just okay graphics leave me feeling pretty meh.
- ldparsnips · v1.1
Fairly interesting and challenging but graphics were poor, cut scenes took way too long and could not be skipped. Not worth $4.99. Should be half that
