This is a fun game, but it’s way too short. For the money that you pay to play it, it should be longer.
- Working class · v1.6.0
I’ve watched the intro about 10 times by now and as soon as it gets to the dock with the plane it won’t let me click or do anything, nor does it progress the scene. The lights go dark and nothing else changes (except the music keeps playing). Then when I restart the app I have to watch the intro scene all over again just to have the same issue. Frustrating to pay for something and not be able to play it. Save your money.
- Eeeeaeeeeftrs · v1.5.5
This is genuinely one of the best video games I’ve ever played. I recently redownloaded it and it’s even better than I remembered almost 10 years later. Chapter 1 is a little short, but it still is practically incomparable with modern games. It’s immersive, funny, innovative, and very smartly written. Quite literally, every single aspect of the game is important to the story and is involved in some way with the plot. I wish more people knew about this game, I couldn’t rate it any higher!
- CDogRox11 · v1.5.5
What do they add to the game? Nothing
- appyreviews22 · v1.5.5
Charming, beautiful, fun and just difficult enough so you won’t get frustrated. This is a perfect PnC adventure and all 3 parts are available to play. Give at least the first Chapter a try - you will be hooked.
- The Real Stoffi · v1.5.5
A great tale, engaging characters, a masterpiece. Each part supersedes the prior in plot depth, complexity, and graphical excellence. The music is quality, and the mood is driven well by the characters. Indie at its best!
- Uber Again? · v1.5.5
Loved every minute of it!
- TDot478 · v1.5.5
This game is fun and due to music and art, remarkably peaceful. Game very reminiscent of early 90s leisure suit Larry, and monkey island, yet very original. Buying the sequel now.
- smaxel · v1.5.5
The graphics, programming, and gameplay controls are stellar and feel polished. For $5 there are many better options, though. The voice acting is far below par. I’d love to see these guys hire professional voice actors to enhance the gameplay. The main character and the low level criminals were well voiced. The rest of the characters sound as if they had friends record voices through cheap mics. The dialog was below par, too. Some parts were hard to listen to without cringing and never should have made production. The reason I won’t buy the other two is the length. It’s short. Really short. I had no issue starting and finishing it within an hour and a half, while getting stuck on a couple puzzles and exploring everything on every screen. I’d imagine the next two chapters are 40% more expensive and the same length.
- LogicElixir · v1.5.5
What a great trilogy! Funny, great music and voice overs, great graphics. Not a single glitch. I did not want to get to the end. Puzzles are challenging but not frustrating. Keep them coming!
- Marty4098 · v1.5.5
Top quality adventure game in the likes of classics such as grim fandango. But too short, i feel it should have had more content for the price.
- Jabulius · v1.5.5
I first played The Journey Down a few years back when only chapter 1 was available and loved everything about it. Now that all 3 chapters are out, I’m so excited to discover the rest of the story. The main character Bwana, with his mischievous personality and great sense of humor, is quite a refreshing change from your typical hardened detective. The supporting cast is fantastic as well. The funky Afro-noir game design is a treat for the eyes and the music is gorgeous - and I don’t even like jazz! I love how despite the environments and plot being generally dark and mysterious, all the characters are incredibly upbeat and fun to talk to. And something I have to mention about the game mechanics is that your items stay with you after one use, whether you may need them again or not - it never made sense to me in other p&c games when your character would leave behind a perfectly good tool after one use! I’m glad the developers here understood that. I can’t believe this amazing game has so few reviews. Yes chapter 1 is a little short but the later chapters are much longer and definitely worth your money. Check it out, you won’t regret it!!
- mirliu · v1.5.5
Old school point and click, easy to play, good for kids, nice graphics, sound, with challenging puzzles. We need more of theses types of games.
- Kaygeedeejay · v1.5.5
The Journey Down remains one of my finest adventure gaming experiences on iOS. The story is compelling, the characters are likable and have depth, the graphics are gorgeous, the interface and controls are intuitive and well polished, and the puzzles are challenging yet not frustrating and are all solvable without referencing a walk through with a little persistence. Now that the entire story is complete and all three episodes are released I highly recommend playing this masterpiece of P&C adventure gaming! You won't be disappointed 🤓 Big thanks to SkyGoblin for weathering the many storms of an indie development path, and for their perseverance to conclude The Journey Down to reward all the players who have invested in and love this story! You have my sincerest thanks!
- g1ove · v1.5.5
Enjoyed the action and puzzles!!! Thanks!
- Kimmyfrog · v1.4
Fantastic musical score, beautiful art combo of hand drawn and computer animation, fun puzzles that aren't too hard and a simple but engaging story to start off the first chapter...can't wait to play the next! My mom only negatives is it was kind of short, though I'm told the next chapter is 2x as long (with the 3rd and final chapter being the best in terms of length and content), so I can give it a pass as this was a small issue Dniester project that thankfully work out for them to make the 2 other chapters they wanted to tell the story....and my other negative is beyond the the main voice acting, some of the side characters are pretty badly recorded, but this again can be forgiven. PS. Please developers update game for iOS 10 per Apple request so game will continue to work on future iOS generations
- Dubs1 · v1.4
A funny adventure game reminiscent of the great point and click games from Lucas Arts. Silly humor tied to a good story, interesting puzzles, and cool art style make this game worth checking out.
- GuyIB25 · v1.4
You know, I thought the voice acting was great, ha! Lots of fun, good story, compelling puzzles, excellent addition to point and click adventure genre. Chapter 2 is just as great. Can't wait for the next installment!
- AdamFout · v1.4
Nice little adventure. Interesting characters and story. Most puzzles kinda sensible, but accessible. Sort of... but with some imagination, are solvable.
- Braided Flagella · v1.4
Too much dialogue. Some puzzles defy any logic. I bought a 2 part bundle, but lost interest after part 1. Plus there is no journey, just search for parts and then the end of the game.... Not worth the money.
- asha44us · v1.4
So tedious to have to listen to the inane dialogue which cannot be turned off. What a colossal waste of money. DELETE
- Feline Muse · v1.4
One of my favorite games can't wait for chapter 3 😍❤️
- Zahrahuw · v1.4
Beautiful point and click game that has the great graphics of today, yet feels like one of the best games of yesteryear. Definitely get the bundle!!
- Listen to rachel · v1.4
If you like point and click adventure games with a sense of humor get this game!
- BARCool74 · v1.4
My husband and I spent about a week solving this. We were laughing and talking and giggling like we hadn't in ages. Not your typical game, much more relaxing and fun. Next time we have a week off with nothing to do, we'll be installing chapter 2. Thanks to all the developers!
- Mobile Eric · v1.4
If you like a lot of dialog this game is for you. I had it open for at least 5 minutes before there was a pause in the dialogue to allow me to do anything. Then the dialogue started again. Game not for me, deleting.
- Anne8088 · v1.4
I loved playing this game. The artwork is beautiful and the puzzles are fun but not overly difficult. If you enjoyed the classic point and click games of LucasArts, like the Monkey Island Series, you will definitely enjoy this game. They adapted touch screen controls so the interface is fairly intuitive.
- RollingBahari · v1.4
This is a good adventure game obviously inspired by Grim Fandango. If you liked that, you'll enjoy this one. However, the big problem is the voice acting, which you can't turn off for some reason. It's corny and borderline offensive, with what appears to be white folks badly attempting Caribbean accents. The worst example is the main character, unfortunately. He sounds like a Jamaican Bobcat Goldthwaite.
- Johnnyt471 · v1.4
Amazing game! It was just like the original Curse of Monkey Island games. This game was the same quality that I expect from Lucasarts. Great sound track as well. The music was a great mix and I swear there was a Kalimba.
- Dally trust · v1.4
A fun and charming adventure.
- HFMadison · v1.4
This game surprised me in more ways than one. I got this game when it was featured for free. Overall, it was a pretty interesting game and is most definitely worth playing. Now, to the nuts and bolts. This game was oddly addictive. Like other people have said, it was hard for me to put it down (only during those times I got frustrated with some of the puzzles). I like the fact that the protagonist is a totally unexpected character -- an adventurous, optimistic gas charter laborer embarking on a venture with a client to get pay off their debt from the power company. Pretty unique plot I must say. But there were a few kinks that irked me while playing this game.... I kind of wasn't a fan of some of the puzzles the game had. Some were extremely hard to figure out, especially if you don't listen to the dialogue. I didn't necessarily skip the dialogue moments, but I can't say I was completely tuned in to catch those nuances needed for the puzzles. I mean, the characters drone on and on, they talk far too slow, and their accents(let's not go there...). Especially the character Lina! Girl, we don't have time for that long, boring backstory. A lot of people are saying that they really love the graphics and art design.... I'm the odd one out in this one. I find the characters faces EXTREMELY creepy. And the graphics are a bit choppy. Not to mention their mouths don't ever move right at all. And the voice acting.... Oh goodness gracious...... Come on, definitely forced accents and some of the dialogue is beyond corny. One of the sailors referred to alcohol as "flufferoonie".... Um, what? Anyway, I'm giving this game 4 starts because I actually finished the first chapter, loved the music score, and really got into the game after it got started (hang in there!!! It's slow at first).
- Papaya93 · v1.4
Really cool quick game. Love the soundtrack and the fact it supports charities. I Like the MC. This one was free but will pay for the second part..
- Techdiva71 · v1.4
Great game!
- teacherme2 · v1.4
can't stop playing!
- AllCarsEatGas · v1.4
Couldn't put it down! I can't wait for the next episode. It's like King's Quest meets 2015, and is directed at those of us who played old point and click adventures! Can't wait to see what else they come out with. This is my first review on any app. Couldn't resist sharing. Well done guys!
- Likethereindeer · v1.4
After much thought, I bought this game. I was on the fence on how it would turn out, but it was actually pretty good. The story was interesting and the puzzles were not too difficult, but not too easy either.
- BIXXA4 · v1.4
Thanks to the beautiful graphic, nice sound background and engaging story it's the most original adventure I've ever played. Big recommend to all. People who made it, made it with passion and thats why this game looks soooo well.
- jirka1x · v1.3
If you enjoy comedy and puzzle solving; this game is for you. Extremely addictive.
- Verosha · v1.3
I bought the game but I have never played a shorter game than this. Sure it has some nice ambiance but the puzzles are extremely dumb, and the storyline is meh. The game is literally played in 10 different rooms and it can be completed in 2 hrs time. Disappointed.
- EHBOSSS · v1.3
Reminiscent of Monkey Island games, but with a Caribbean feel and somewhat-easier puzzles.
- Snoopydance4 · v1.3
While looking for something like the classic Grim Fandango, I came across this and was thoroughly surprised! Very addicting and enjoyable!
- joshpru · v1.3
I found the game to be very engaging and challenging, sometimes really making me think "outside the box" to figure out the puzzles! Can't wait to play chapter 2!!
- BulldogChick · v1.3
Fun, funny, adventure game with great puzzles, beautiful graphics, and excellent music (RIP Simon D'Souza). If you dig classic adventure games like Grim Fandango or the Monkey Island series, then this is a must-play.
- dhla44 · v1.3
Creates a world you want to participate in. The highest compliment I can pay to any mechanics is that they don't get in the way, and here they certainly do not. The graphics, the setting, the characters, the plot, all very well developed, resulting in an immersive world. I've also never delighted so much in seasoning fish. Oh, did I mention it's funny, too?
- Rateryed · v1.3
Awesome point and click game. Very well put together. The graphics are awesome. Loved the background music.
- Puddinz · v1.3
This point-and-click adventure game has fun and sass, a quirky cast, and music that beautifully fits the visual tone of each location. The Journey Down's Afro-Caribbean inspired cast is especially noteworthy—I hope to soon see more games starring characters as culturally and visually diverse as are people in the real world. If you enjoyed Grim Fandango or any game by DoubleFine, you'll probably also like The Journey Down.
- TaitVox · v1.3
Best game I've played in awhile. Similar to classic point and clicks but fantastic design and interface. Funny engaging story and puzzles are the perfect level of challenging without becoming frustrating. Plays 1 & 2 and can't wait for the final chapter.
- THarding · v1.3
A very fun and engaging game that easily keeps your attention. Can't wait to play the second one.
- Cards35 · v1.3
This is a great game. I loved the artwork as well as the game play. Very imaginative and original.
- Youknowitman · v1.3
I really enjoyed this game, one of those apps that you know was developed from the heart. Great story, puzzles, music, characters & voices. 5 stars and keep those chapters coming!!
