Really Solid Game

This is a really solid game that has full controller support. It can be difficult at times, but it always seems fair. If you enjoy old school side scrollers then I definitely recommend picking this one up.

Exquisite

This game is everything my 9-year-old self could have never imagined. The team that updated this game handled everything lovingly and with such wonderful attention to detail. It was such a delight to go back in time, and then to have the whole game reimagined—and to have both versions accessible at the touch of a button on my controller was the icing on the cake. Thank you for bringing this game back to life for me.

Controller support

Game is awesome, I never played the original and have no nostalgia or love for the series. However this is a fun remake and it’s awesome that I can switch to the original graphics and sound on the fly. My main and only gripe is that I can’t play it with my MFI Razer Kishi. Please add support for other popular controllers. Frankly since it’s an MFI controller I’m surprised that it doesn’t already work. Apparently DS4 and xbox controllers are all that work. Backbone doesn’t seem to work either.

Amazing....trip down memory lane

This was my favorite game when I was like 12. I downloaded it and am blown away by the quality.....it actually is better than I remember the original - what a great job they have done....what a surprise....this game was and is excellent - cool story....hopefully they are working on Wonderboy in Monsterland!

No MFi Controller Support

Supports controllers, but only the PS4/Xbox ones. Very annoying. Would not have bought it if I knew, but it’s misleadingly labeled online.

Why doesn’t this game support controllers? Backbone controller doesn’t work on it and it’s listed to have controller support. Awful.

Great side scroller

This is a great game that I played on my Apple TV. It works flawlessly with a PS4 controller. The graphics are lovely, and the game is actually quite long and engaging. I would like to see more classic games brought back with modern graphics and sound as the developers did with this game that originally appeared on the Sega master system. Please remake some more classics!

Great game but...

I love what the team did with Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Curse! Graphics and art style are perfect. However, I assumed the iOS version supported MFI controllers. It looks like it only supports DS4 and Xbox controllers. It’s a shame that MFI controllers are incompatible. I tried using the Backbone One and it isn’t working. Can MFI controllers be added as a feature?

Nostalgia and great graphics

I played this with an Xbox controller, so I can’t comment on controls. I wish more games of my childhood were redone with cartoon visuals. 8-bit was fine back in the day, but a cartoon format works so much better. I love how you can hit a button to go in to retro mode and sync in to some nostalgia. This is the right way to bring back old games!

Controller support??

Says it supports iOS controllers but my MFI official Nimbus+ won’t work with it. Huh? So I haven’t got to play it to test it out. I bought it with the intention of playing with the controller and I’m sure not going to use a on-screen controller.

Awesome-wish it had iCloud saves

This is a beautiful and fun game. I think it is great and I love they fact it is supported for all my devices. I just wish it had iCloud save capability so I can pick up where I left off on any of my devices.

This game has to be perfect,the classic wonder boy dragon’s trap is one of the best games of all time and to have on my iPad is unbelievable. ADVICE : if you want to have a good experience playing this amazing game I recommend using a ps4 or xbox controller believe me you’ll love it.

Great game. Takes me back to the old day especially with the 8bit(I think) mode lol. Keeping it classic while literally keeping it classic!! Great Job guys. Now make The old Goonies 2(but is really goonies one and there isn’t even a goonies 2 movie) game!! 🤨

Great game for iPad!

Okay so first off before they even added the update to give Xbox One and PS4 controller support, my Xbox controller was already working with it! I haven’t tried it since the update, so they may have added some refinements but I thought that was cool. I definitely recommend playing this game with a controller so you can get the most out of your display. As far as the game itself, I have to say that I had never played the original game or any other WonderBoy/MonsterBoy game. So I didn’t know what I was getting into but the game looked promising so I bought it. I have been really enjoying this game! It’s basically a side scrolling RPG with some plat forming. So yes, good game. Even better with a controller! The only thing I think that could use some improvement is the help menu. It’s just a bunch of pictures with button mapping.

One of my favorite classics, ruined by button placement

Update 12/2/19 - Just tried again to play this game, but nope, buttons are still horribly placed and impossible to see the screen. What a waste of a great game. It’s not even playable. Seriously, how am I supposed to see what I’m doing when my thumbs are blocking the screen? Has this really not happened to anyone else? It’s cool that you can adjust the button size and fading, but how about a relocation drag and drop option. Personally, I’d place all the buttons as far away from the screen as possible. Motion button, bottom left corner, 3 other buttons stacked above each other farthest right side. I used to LOVE this game, it’s truly one of the best, but there’s no way I can play this as it stands. It’s impossible, or incredibly frustrating. 1 star for now, I’m not gonna play it until I ‘can’ play it.

Freezes

At different points in the game it freezes and then continues to freeze at Game Center login! Only option is to uninstall and reinstall losing all progress. Great game can’t wait to actually play it! Responding to the developer response.... this has been an “unknown issue” for months if you look at all the reviews before mine that have the same issue. Thankfully the issue has become slightly less frequent and I was able to complete the game which is actually pretty great so I’ll bump up to 3 stars, but still has some bugs to work out.

Stuck in another language

I really do like the game, it’s great! But it seems to be stuck in French or something. I’ve noticed some other people having the same issue, any way to fix it? Great customer service! Hopefully the problem will get fixed in new update! Thanks a bunch, 5 stars!

Awesome game

Having tons of fun playing this game. Awesome remake of a classic. One complaint I do have is that when I click on the top right of the screen to change items it will switch to retro mode and then I have to pause it to switch back kinda tedious.

Hard for the wrong reasons

This game is clearly fun, he level design is good and you feel the old-game nostalgia when playing. But... the format on iPhone is just awful. NOTHING justify this format. The game do not use any smartphone features in particular. Worse, the controls are horrendous since you alternate between plate-form puzzles and monsters fights. The game itself isn’t hard, but you keep on dying because the controls make everything harder. I do not mind hard game when the level design is thought this way (ex: Hollow Night). However here I feel like it’s not the developers intentions, it just feel like a lazy attempt to remaster an old good game on iOS to make some $$$ without even wondering if this format is even appropriate for the gameplay. Well, it’s not, it’s just incredibly frustrating. If you’re looking for some challenge, go ahead, but be aware it might not be the kind of challenge you are looking for.

Can’t even pass the beginning area without losing the game. The controls are awfully difficult! Hard to move and jump and attack. Sometimes your character gets stuck on the monster so it’s instant game over. Complete waste of time and money!

Amazing

Thank you for letting me re-live my childhood. I used to play this on the Sega Game Gear. Not only has the game been released with modern graphics and sound, but with a simple swipe I can switch to 8 bit mode! There is also an extensive gallery of game art and development videos. Easily worth the price.

Incredible game... needs patching

Have always loved this game, so I jumped on it when I spotted it on IOS. Problem is that it will not load on iOS on my Phone without freezing, and on iPad it runs super slow and laggy... fix maybe, and I’ll rate 5 for sure!

A classic beautifully re-imagined

Wonder Boy 3 was a classic platformer for the sega master system. A new team has lovingly updated it for iOS with lush, hand-drawn graphics and an excellent orchestral soundtrack. The controls aren’t as precise as I’d like, but they won’t hold you back from enjoying this game. Bravo!

Loved this game as a kid, love it now. Beaten it now on normal and Hard mode. With all the rotten games on the App Store with high ratings a rating below 4.5 doesn’t give this game justice.

Classic Remake with Greater Style

I never heard of the Wonder Boy game series until now. The new art style is what first drew my attention. After getting use to the somewhat old school game mechanics, I quickly fell in love with this game. I love the option of being various creatures with slightly different playing styles. I almost competed everything in the game but unfortunately now it keeps crashing. Hopefully a new UPDATE will fix the issues.

Incredible remake of a classic but the mobile version freezes a lot!

This game is awesome, but once I complete the game, it freezes on launch every time. The only way to play it again on my devices is to uninstall it completely then reinstall, losing all my progress and achievements. Please fix this!

Gorgeous, worst controls in years, bug prevents passing level 1

Haven’t seen controls this bad since the first few years of the App Store. I cant beat Boss 1 on Level 1 because the game hangs. Check out the other reviews - they have the same problem.

Pretty fun game, I like how I can resize the buttons to make it how I want them, great gameplay, Looks amazing, but I was in the middle of the desert and it randomly switched to retro visuals,It did this again to whenever I went to the store to buy weapons I don’t know how to fix this bug and it’s really inconvenient

Game Center freezes iPhone 7

As a Nintendo kid, I never knew about this series. But, the game is great and the remake beautiful. One star though because the game freezes on a fully updated iPhone 7 when using Game Center. Specifically, the game freezes when the GC welcome back message drops down, making the game unplayable. I did play the game with an iPad Pro logging in to GC and there was no issue. The problem only seems to be present on the phone. Fix this and it’s a 5-star review for sure.

Amazingly Done!

First and foremost the art/animation for this game is gorgeous. And the programming to make it all flow so good must be top notch! Glad to have this in my digital collection! Plus how you can swap back and forth from retro to modern is awesome! Worth the buy for sure, thanks for an awesome game!

Even ‘Easy’ Mode is Frustrating

I’m all for fun of conquering a good challenge, but this game, even in easy mode, is clunky and not very fun. I can’t get past the first level. Not a game you can just pick up and play casually. You have to really commit to mastering the clunky controls. Hopefully there’s an update soon that flushes some of this out.

Awesome game, too many bugs

This game is really good... what I’ve been able to play of it. However, after reaching the dragon that turns you into a mouse, the game freezes on the loading screen. I would like to keep playing. Please fix this.

I Can’t stand screen fill ins

So this game is great. A ton of fun. However, the lazy attempt of iPhone X screen is hideous. I have real estate to use on the side of the screens except they use it as filler; a backdrop of sorts. On a Xs max not so bad. But on a x the screen is too small
