Lichess

LiChess is terrific. For zero cost, you get: endless puzzles, rated games, and a great learning section that makes this the best chess app. I must say that the lessons aspect isn't terribly consistent, but then that means it can possibly appeal to a wider spectrum of learners. Again, you can't argue with free. If you play, or are interested in learning, chess this is the best choice.

- Hob Art · v0.28.4

I have downloaded and installed the app on my android phone for the first time. I have attempted to sign in for the first time. I cannot find a page where I can register as a player. I am therefore denied access. Do I need to register in a browser and not in the app?

- William Lawrence · v0.28.4

I love this app and donate regularly, but didn't like the new black app icon color and couldn't get use to it. Besides, I prefer one-click new game option on the main screen.

- Vihaan P · v0.28.4

I will always refuse to use this new app. The old app still is so much better and much easier to navigate through. If the old app stops working, i'll switch to browser or pc even, or stop playing on Lichess completely.

- Dennis Tienesen · v0.28.4

the better chess app

- Ahmd · v0.28.4

I am using the app on my android phone. After one or two games analysis, the engine stops working with an exclamation mark (!). The best moves arrows disappear and the evaluation bar stops working. This is really frustrating. I have to restart my phone every time to make the engine work. The old version was much better. The engine always used to work no matter what!! I also have a screenshot but I do not find an option to upload the photo here. I would have given 4 stars to the old version.

- Hatem Meliany · v0.25.3

Really good. Love it as a jab at the competition. Am also getting used to the new interface. Now it just needs the option for getting a computer analysis for imported games via the app, and not just the browser.

Been using Lichess for a while and it's genuinely great. No ads, no paywall, no premium popups — just play. Puzzles are addictive (though pretty difficult, at least for me 😅 I'm an amateur). Post-game analysis actually helps you learn instead of just showing a number. Simple interface, loads fast on mobile. It's open source too — made by people who love chess, not people trying to squeeze money out of you. Highly recommend. 5 stars.

Lichess is hands down the best chess app on the Play Store. It offers everything a chess player needs—unlimited puzzles, deep game analysis, and multiple variants—completely for free. There are absolutely no ads or hidden paywalls, which makes the experience incredibly smooth and focused. The open-source nature of the app shows how much the developers genuinely care about the community. Whether you want a quick game or want to deeply analyze your mistakes, this app is perfect. Highly recommended

- Purnima Das · v0.26.4

still lagging behind other apps - nice interface but not worth it. why did you break something that wasn't broken?

How can I automatically save my position in a study? I am several chapters in but despite "liking" the study, whenever I back out of the app and return later, it rolls me all the way back to the first chapter instead of resuming my place.

- Franz Pattison · v0.24.6

Perfect app to playing online chess. All is free like really free (not a paywall like other). If you like puzzle, it's the best app, by far, in this domain and many studies are available and helpful.

- Sowingg · v0.26.4

Their own Off Line Players! IIIrd classes for purely player of chess. Only good for their own website players. I complaint against app for development, but It's continue going on wrong way with their own players! Request you to improve service.
