Roll Player - The Board Game

I love this game, it's one of my favorites. However, I'm frustrated by the fact that I can't sign in on my laptop with the same account that I use on my tablet. On my laptop I'm given a generic username, which I can't change.

Definitely an excellent method of playing the game as it streamlines the different logistical moves and helps prevent you from accidentally missing a step or overlooking a modified value based on the cards that you've drawn. Excellent implementation and the art is true to the physical game The only reason I remove a star is due to the fact that I'm not able to pull up past characters, as I used to be able to. I'm playing on a OnePlus 9 and pressing the profile button doesn't do anything...

Not played the original board game so wasn't sure what to expect and nothing to compare it against. Turns out, that doesn't matter. For an old table top RPGer like me, this fills a need I didn't realise I had. Lovely graphics, smooth game play. Glad I purchased it. Looking forward to expansions in time. Only problem I have with it is that I can log in on my tablet fine, but can't on a second device - doesn't recognise my account details for some reason.

Solid adaptation; needs Minions and Monsters

This is a great adaptation of the base game; that said the Minions and Monsters expansion elevates this to a truly solid and repayable game. They need to add this ASAP.

I still haven't played the tabletop version yet but I want to. This seems to be a very well made clone of it. VERY fun but screams for more of almost everything. more setup options, more market cards, and more challenges. Most of all, I'd love a campaign or mission, something like you have to form an entire party with extra goal boxes for things like which classes work best as leaders for this mission, best marching order based on class/stats/eq, equipment needed to face final boss, etc.

Needs customization, otherwise fantastic

This is a fun strategy game that depends upon a little luck. It takes a bit of time to understand the mechanics if you’re not familiar with the board game, but it’s worth the effort. The only drawback is the inability to choose your character when playing the AI. It’s frustrating. Other games that start with random assignments allow choice in their online versions (7 Wonders comes to mind). Why not increase the players’ satisfaction by allowing us to customize our starting characters? It’s a frustrating aspect of an otherwise perfect game.

Colorblind

I like the premise of the game, it was challenging it made you think about strategies. My problem is that I’m colorblind and an important part of this game is being able to tell what colors of squares and dice.

A solid game. Making a character is often the most fun part of an RPG anyway, so I love that they gamified that. Knocked one star off because the UI could be easier to read.

Favorite app so far. I hesitated on buying the board game for a long time, and I am very satisfied with this alternative. I’ve completed 6 games in the 12 hours or so since I downloaded it. Each class offers different challenges, and I don’t imagine getting bored with this any time soon. 5 stars.

Games disappear

While the presentation of the game is great, they have a serious problem with asynchronous games just disappearing half way through. This has happened 2 out of my last 5 games.

A very enjoyable experience. Takes a good game and translates well. Good tutorial and a good UI. Couple of notes. I feel as though some of the buttons could be located more centrally during play, rather than out in the corners. Biggest thing I'd like to see is a little more suspense in the end score tally. Maybe each runs up one at a time or there's more of a breakdown. Wingspan and Lords of Water Waterdeep do it well.

I said you can't play this game solo against AI & I was wrong, but its not very intuitive. When I saw human as a choice in the local game section I thought it meant the race in the game. It's not really spelled out in the tutorial or rules book on how to start one of these games against the AI if you don't understand how setting up a local game works. Finding someone else to play against is still a huge problem even if you use discord. All you have to do is look at the dates of when people post.

Dear dev...please test account creation in your app. Creating an account in this app requires a computer in order to get the code. Swiping down on the phone screen to get to your email makes the code verification screen go away in the app. Lmao. So how are users supposed to setup their account while checking email on their phone???

Fun, but needs player customization, and high score list

Title says it all. Very fun little strategy game, but solo play gets old fast. Would be great if you could completely customize a character with the full selection of classes, backgrounds, and alignments. I understand that this is based on a board game and the rules state you choose between two classes and are automatically assigned a background and alignment, but in the board game you could easily ignore this rule and create your own completely custom character from all available choices, so I see no reason not to add this feature here. Would add replayability to solo play. Also could very much use a high score table to track your recent plays, letting you chase your own high score.

Way too complicated for me

From reading the other reviews, I’m sure most people will disagree. But I found this game to be way too complicated. And the tutorial didn’t help a whole lot. I went through it twice, and I’m still confused. I had an easier time learning how to play chess. On edit: I received a very gracious response from the developer. So I added two more stars out of respect for that. But I think I’ll keep the title, just to warn others who might be looking for a simple, basic game.

After several plays it begins to feel a bit stale, but I think that will change if they add the expansions. I had my doubts at first

I took a huge gamble in investing ten bucks in a D&D style dice game. Dice games tend to get boring. D&D Games has never been my thing. But this game is amazing. Through my first play through I was like “Geez, I wasted lunch money on this?” But as I kept playing I got a better understanding and I love it! It’s a puzzle game first with character story to keep the dice mechanics more engaging. And the formula works! KUDOS! If your skeptical, play the tutorial and just play through a complete game even if you don’t understand and are just going through the motions. One or two play throughs you’ll catch on and you’ll love it!

The best disappearing game ever

Lol. Yes your games will disappear on occasion but don't panic. They will soon reappear. It is unclear to me if your time to play continues to count down or not. I'm sure the company is working on fixing this problem as i and several of my friends have reported the problem. They make it very easy to contact them. I found the tutorial and playing vs the AI to be lacking in fun. So I thought I was not going to enjoy this game. That coupled with the odd premise for the game and i went into it with a very negative attitude. I was very happily surprised. When playing vs actual humans the game is a bunch of fun, and in order to win you can't use a set formula. You must take advantage of what is offered you and use it well. Normally a bug like games disappearing and reappearing would cause me to lower my rating by one star until it got fixed, but i'm having so much fun playing this game that i think it deserves 5 stars even with that bug! Great game! I highly recommend it!

Excellent Digital Adaptation of a great board game

This is a really great digital version of the Roll Player board game. When I had first tried the physical board game I thought it was just OK, wasn’t sure why everyone was saying it was so great. But that was a couple years ago, and now that I’ve played this digital version, I love the board game and want to go back to the physical version again. Just purchased the new expansion for the physical version. I’m so into it now! This app is very relaxing to play, fine little puzzle, great music to go with it. It makes the gameplay of the board game just so smooth. I hope they add all of the expansions! I will definitely buy them.

My go to game!

I purchased this app recently as I have had the physical version of the game for a couple of years now. I didn’t really play the board game a lot but since buying the app, I can’t stop playing it! I’ve been having so much fun developing my different characters by drafting dice, purchasing traits, weapons, and skills. The dice mitigation in this game brings me back again and again as I try to make the best character possible. After playing this app for a week now, I purchased the first expansion of the physical game so that I can bring it out with my local game group. I can only hope they the expansion gets released for this app as well. Great fun!

Great solo - needs multiplayer and expansions

This is a fun and relatively easy to understand game. The board game with expansions is always fun. Both expansions add quite a bit so adding them will make this game fantastic even if solo. The app delivers a very smooth experience and the ability to undo a phase before final confirm is excellent. Also love the preview option. Great UI. Phenomenal Implementation

I hesitated for years to play the board game, erroneously thinking it wasn’t up my alley, and the investment was too much. Then I saw the digital implementation was coming to iOS. “This is my chance,” I thought. At $10 it’s more than I’d like to pay, but if you are in that same boat…worry not. This is easily worth it. Not only do I love the game enough to go seek out the board game, but I also can’t put the app down. It’s so easy to hop in and play a game. The mechanics are engaging, the tutorial is perfect. Absolutely phenomenal work on this app. I am already excited to see the expansions make their way to digital!

Thinky Quick Turns

Enjoying this game for some quick turns throughout the day. Some of the UI is pretty poor. Clicking through unnecessary screens that describe what’s happening in front of me over and over is fatiguing. Sometime special abilities that are active are actually hidden (Bard). Never hide info. Good UX isn’t rocket science folks! Hand your game to users that haven't played and see what goes wrong.
