A Digital Board Game of Woodland Warfare
Play the digital adaptation of the beloved tabletop board game. Root is a game of adventure and war where 2 to 4 players battle for control of a vast wilderness. The nefarious Marquise de Cat has seized the great woodland, intent on harvesting its riches. Under her rule, the many creatures of the forest have banded together. This Alliance will seek to strengthen its resources and subvert the rule of Cats. In this effort, the Alliance may enlist the help of the wandering Vagabonds who are able to move through the more dangerous woodland paths. Though some may sympathize with the Alliance’s hopes and dreams, these wanderers are old enough to remember the great birds of prey who once controlled the woods. Meanwhile, at the edge of the region, the proud, squabbling Eyrie have found a new commander who they hope will lead their faction to resume their ancient birthright. The stage is set for a contest that will decide the fate of the great woodland. It is up to the players to decide which group will ultimately take root.

Fantastic game and great implementation. It's a bit heavy, so don't play it if you're a total board game beginner, otherwise I strongly recommend it. the expansions are very expensive, though. I wish they halved their prices, I'd happily buy them then.
- Wasyl Kurek · v2.1.5
Really helps you understand the OG board game and keeps our game group fresh for those rare times we can actually sit down and play the board game
- 6373574 · v2.1.5
the game is great... But every game there is at least 1 afk player which you need to wait 15-20 minutes before an ai take the place... and now other players leaving the game. You either wait or leave with them. Almost every game ends with everyone leaving... %80 wait 20% play
- Oğuzhan Ç · v2.1.5
excellent port of the boardgame, maybe even better than the physical version
- Deivis Slavinskas · v2.1.5
For the game itself 5 stars, but the app has so many annoying issues like not being able to handle being minimized for 1 second without kicking you out of your game
- Evan Finke · v2.1.5
excellent version of a wonderful boardgame
- Ken Hendrickson · v2.1.5
Beautiful game. I just wish there was a bundle for expansions. :(
- Craig Campbell · v2.1.5
Really fun and strategic! Well worth the low cost, as it is much cheaper than the physical game! Excellent soundtrack!
- Adam Ekstrom · v2.1.5
rules should be updated to the revised board game rules. and more options for undo.
- Jesslyn McPherson
I prefer this on a larger screen. Also the game is fairly complex, the app does a good job laying things out, but be careful this is not a pickup and bluster you're way to instantly figuring things out. This game takes a while to learn.
- Jon Winslow · v2.1.5
To preface this I've never played the physical game, that said I can tell they stayed true to the aesthetics and themes, but I'd gotten it in part to learn as I'd been warned ROOT can be quite obtuse; so, I'd hoped the digitized version would help with that some. While it has gotten me familiar with it the tutorials being so strict makes it difficult to understand the cards available, its interface is also a bit stiff, otherwise it seems to be a faithful recreation.
- Ebony Black · v2.1.5

- heylookmaya · v2.1.5

- Nicolay N · v2.1.5
Fantastic adaptation of the board game, it’s great for learning the game or if you’re like me and have a hard time getting enough people together to play, you can play with your friends online or against the bots which are very solid. If you buy any of the dlc on steam you can restore purchase as long as you link your account which is a very nice feature. Highly recommend to anyone who likes strategy board games. Also they knocked it out of the park with the art style! The game looks and runs fantastic.

Game is great, infuriating but great
- Wh0_c4r3s · v2.1.5
we own this game as a family regarding a physical copy. rarely do board games translate from being great on the table to tablet or phone. but this game is great. the animations are cute and the pass and play feature for long car trips is great!

- RT Hodges · v2.1.5
Not for me, unfortunately. I felt the detailed board game mechanics didn't translate to the mobile experience. The tutorial was necessarily laborious, and unfortunately felt like a barrier to the game. I suspect that won't be a problem if you already know the board game, but I was trying this as an affordable way of trying the board game out and it didn't really work for me. I also found the on-screen text much too small to read. However, it's a well-built app and clearly made with care.

I recommend the physical copy as well! It’s just a little more expensive 😬
- Good reporter accurate · v2.1.5
An incredible game that translates beautifully to the mobile format. Absolutely worth your time and attention. My only complaint is the DLC is a little excessively priced. It could easily be half what's being asked for.

Root is one of my favorit boardgames oat. this is a wonderful adaptation of it! I will say its kinda hard to tell certain mechanics are there. like the ruins or how many cards my opponents have or what items I have crafted. nit picks but still smt
- Theodore Folkesson · v2.1.5
fun and repeatable but not boring
- Made Dwipamaha · v2.1.5
One of my favorite board games, and a solid mobile version. Sadly have to give it 1* since I can no longer install this app, presumably because it requires Play Integrity API, instead of Android's hardware attestation API. Shame that those of us who care about the privacy & security of our devices, and are abhored by Google's recent practices can't enjoy Root.
- inyte0exe · v2.1.5
As someone who plays this game in person a decent amount, and has quite a few hours into the digital version, the strategy game itself is very good, with decent balance among factions that play very differently. My beef is that this is clearly not optimized for a small touchscreen, and if there wasn’t an undo option, I would have installed it ages ago. If you are playing it with a mouse and keyboard, it’s very precise, but the touchscreen controls work poorly, and I and others I play with have frequent misclicks in game. While this isn’t always a big deal, there are certain actions which can’t be taken back (for good reason) so the frequency at which this occurs can change the game if done at an inopportune time. Please devs, fix the controls so that they actually feel like they belong on something people control with their fingers!!!
- joker69mc · v2.1.5
A necessary experience for any human’s life to meaningful. The game of a lifetime. The best board games oat, and I don’t think it’s close. The amount of nuance, strategy, and unique playstyles is unparalleled by any war game, or board game for that matter. It takes a while to get, but once you get it, you won’t be able to stop playing.

- Amit Tor · v2.1.5
I’ve been playing root, the actual table top game for over a year now. It’s been a great time so if you’re wondering if this game is worthwhile it absolutely is. A great deal of skill expression with so many factions you’re bound to love one of them and they’re all so different. This online client is an excellent way to learn and practice each faction. They’re cheaper here than when you buy them physically, so great there. Plus the rules are enforced so you get to see how a real game should run. The o my downside is that it’s not up to date with whatever is the newest expansion. Fingers crossed it will be soon. So we’re missing a few factions. To the fellow root enjoyers, this client is excellent for many reasons. Chief among them is the fact you get to see how the rules should play out. Play on here enough and you can see what moves you can take back vs can’t, what specific situations look like and an overall understanding of the rules. Unfortunately the new expansion isn’t here. But other than the changes they made. This client is law in our group. It’s great to see how things should be set up and interacted with in real time. Definitely recommend getting this and all the expansions.

- Logan Amos · v2.1.5
Root is visually nice but technically failing. Solos are ruined by incompetent bots, and asynchronous games frequently vanish. Beyond the initial price, the map feels empty without expensive in-game purchases; most factions and maps are locked behind DLC that costs more than the base game combined. With cluttered menus and high battery drain, the mobile port is costly to recommend over the physical board game..
- Corey Vincent · v2.1.3
Overall on a phone it does justice, there are the common pop ups for leave a review and other games to check out but you can quickly get rid of them, amazing game and tutorial is super helpful, overall I’d say it’s worth the price, and optional expansions but not needed
- No2.511 · v2.1.5
This app is a very faithful recreation of the board game. The mechanics are very well executed, and the learning curve is, although steep, made easier through this digital medium. The art direction is gorgeous, and the way everything is animated gives every action that happens in the game life. It has good options for local and online play, too, and the single-player challenges allow anyone to grasp and gain mastery of the game. I love all of this, it's cool : )

My Pixel phone is a couple of years old and has the latest Android ... and I can't install because my device "is not compatible with this version" of Root?

People seem to like this game but it feels way overly complicated and NOT for beginners at all. I fell asleep trying to learn the second tutorial. Sadly this is the only mobile game I've ever purchased and I regret it.
- Ksin33 · v2.1.5
Great for learning the basics of the game and the different Factions. Bots take some questionable actions sometimes, even on hard difficulty setting. The app is a great beginner's tool, and keeps me sharp in between game nights.

Root is my favourite board game, and learning each faction has to be the best part. But the digital version has issues. There’s no penalty for leaving online matches, and no competitive mode for players who want more than casual play. Also, you can get all DLCs for free by cancelling the Google Play purchase through play store, and you still keep it, which clearly needs fixing. I think a proper way to deal with the first issue is to do what Age of Empires II did with their elo system.
- Xadrian Boshoff · v2.1.5
Absolutely loved the game, the only downside is that I can’t play it on the train while on my way home from work. The game would just stuck at loading screen.

one of my most loved games. I have to board game and all expansions, this is an awesome digital version I can play when other people are not available
- Shaun Batchelor · v2.1.5
No ranking system means that most people just leave every game and there is no consequence. This ruins the fun in the experience. Nobody cares about how they play, because they will just leave if their BS doesnt work. This has ruined the fun for me. I have to bring people I can trust if i want to play a multiplayer game, and that is a huge PITA. Thanks for ruining Root, dwd.

This game has trash instructions. I can never craft cards even when I meet the requirements. I have rule over the areas I need to and yet I can never craft cards. Whenever I attack or defend my rolls are always flipped if they are higher than the opponent and then they are given for the opponent to use. If I roll a 3 and the opponent rolls a 1 they get my 3 and I get their 1. So combat is absolutely trash. I have tried to play many games and every time ends the same way loss after loss becomes I am reading and following the rules but they don’t seem to apply.

While Root’s expansions are top notch and fun to play, the original 4 factions are my favorites. Still have loads of fun with my gaming group because we know them so well. So whether you just buy the base game or go all out with all the expansions, you’re sure to have a lot f fun.
- Dekmaster08 · v2.1.3
A cute and varied game with a lot going on, brought to life by excellent app design.
- Sola-Fide · v2.1.3
I’ve played a few rounds now, and I have enjoyed it throughly. I’ve tried all 4 base game factions, and they all seem to be well balanced and all equally fun to play as. The online cross platform works well, I joined and hosted others on the switch and on PC no problems. My only wish is that creating private games had a more intuitive way to join or invite friends. I can add online friends with their username, but the game doesn’t seem to have the ability to automatically join each other’s games
- Emulosity · v2.1.3
This makes it so easy to play root. Especially when I’m trying to learn a faction, I don’t have to devote hours to a game I can just play when I can.
- { ~bacon~ } · v2.1.3
I really want to like this app. But the “zoom info” at the top of the screen is blocking all of the pop ups that tell me what is happening. I cannot get rid of it. I have tried everything. I will change my rating if this ever gets fixed.

I have root the board game but I don’t have many friends that play as well. This game solves that because of the online element. Plus the challenges are really fun. I would recommend this if you like root but can’t play it often
- Namesarehardtofind.com.com · v2.1.3
When a character loses, there are different poses they assume based on how many points they lost by. If you lose by a lot your character lies flat on the ground. If you lose by a little, most of the characters stand with their heads down and their hand on their opposite elbow. Except the vagabond. When the vagabond loses by a mere one point he sits on the ground with stars circling his head. It just makes it seem like he’s lost by way more than he has. I always play the vagabond and this annoys me 😅

- couuuuuuuuuuuu · v2.1.3
The first thing I noticed about Root was its art: cute anthropomorphic animals in medieval set dressing. Diving further, each group of animals represents a political force or faction in war for the woodland at large. These archetypes are split into two major categories, militants and insurgents. They play differently as their names suggest, militants exert force and generally have a larger presence in the woodland expanding from clearing to clearing, leaving a small garrison behind as their frontlines expand with the bulk of their forces. Insurgents on the other hand can similarly spread albeit without the military might to back that presence, instead their deployments represent a softer form of power that harbors the potential for great violence or exploitation if left unchecked. Each faction, both militants and insurgents, play differently. This expansive asymmetry and the many different combinations of the factions means no two games truly play the same. There is also a deck of cards with different suits that represent the varied denizens of the woodland, each faction can leverage these cards in their own way to accomplish their goals to end the war in their favor, alongside the universal options that each card offers. There’s more to consider with expansions introducing hirelings (minor versions of each faction that are mutually exclusive with their counterparts), and landmarks (special buildings that add flavor and a new mechanic to a clearing). There’s a lot to this game, I would suggest playing each faction at least once to get a sense of how each can influence the state of the game and its outcome. Also, I hate the vagabond, which is just a comment on my own preference when playing the game.
