About
Discover Zohn Ahl, a traditional Kiowa game of chance, counting, and community—brought to life as an interactive educational experience. Zohn Ahl, also known as the Ahl Game, was traditionally played on a circular board using markers, beads, and casting sticks. In this digital recreation, players cast the sticks, move their game pieces around the board, avoid hazards, capture opponents, and collect scoring beads. Simple to learn but full of suspense, every cast can change the course of the game. Play against another person or challenge the computer while learning how Zohn Ahl reflects the traditions of the Kiowa people of the Great Plains. Beyond the game board, the app includes an illustrated cultural book that introduces readers to important aspects of Kiowa history and life. Topics include: • Zohn Ahl and traditional games • Kiowa family and community life • Tipis and moving camp • Buffalo hunting and the many uses of the buffalo • Horses, travel, and the travois • Traditional foods and gathering • Clothing, feathers, beadwork, and painted designs • Spiritual traditions, songs, and ceremonies • Chiefs and respected Kiowa leaders • Kiowa language and names • Art, storytelling, and recorded history • Modern Kiowa culture today Learn how Kiowa families followed the buffalo across the Plains, used horses for travel and hunting, created beautiful beadwork and painted designs, and passed knowledge from elders to children through stories, songs, games, and shared traditions. After reading, test your understanding with a multiple-choice reading comprehension quiz. The quiz encourages careful reading and reinforces important information about Kiowa culture, history, daily life, and the Zohn Ahl game. Features include: • A playable digital simulation of Zohn Ahl • Human-versus-human and human-versus-computer play • Animated casting sticks and game pieces • Traditional game hazards, captures, scoring, and extra turns • An illustrated guide to Kiowa history and culture • Optional spoken narration • A reading comprehension quiz with score tracking • Music, sound, and speech controls • An educational experience designed for students, families, teachers, and lifelong learners The Kiowa people are still here today, preserving and sharing their language, art, stories, ceremonies, and community traditions. This app presents Zohn Ahl as both an enjoyable game and an opportunity to learn about the creativity, resilience, and continuing cultural heritage of the Kiowa people. Play the game. Explore the culture. Test what you have learned.
