Beginner or advanced, become a chess master, without ever being disturbed by ads. Do you want to master the most prestigious, the classiest game ever, while having fun? It's EASY! For starters, there are no ads to distract you. There's no account to create, and you don't even need to be connected to the Internet. So, how does it work? If you are a beginner, let yourself be guided by the introductory lessons included. The lessons are SHORT and EASY. Right from the start, you begin playing by moving pieces, and you learn the rules of the game while having fun. The first 40 lessons are free. Once you know the rules, you start playing real games! The coach shows you the moves a Grandmaster would pick. Not just one move, but THE 4 BEST MOVES. Sounds too simple? But think about it... How did you learn to speak as a child? Did you take grammar and spelling lessons? Of course not. You listened to the adults talk and then you went for it! Because that's how you learn! This app allows you to do just that, AND IT WORKS! From the very first games, you start learning effortlessly. You immediately enjoy playing, and after a while you notice that the right moves come to mind naturally, as if they were obvious. Gradually, you deactivate the suggestions and play by yourself. At the end of each game, the coach shows you the good and bad moves you've made. You can better understand what happened, and you can even try out other moves to improve. (Following this is the default praise from the app creator, but it’s true. I’m a beginner and have played this for years. Brilliant especially for those learning the game). Really good app. Good for beginners. You can set difficulty very, very low and ramp up slowly as you beat progressively higher AI settings. Free app requires you to win a certain amount to keep playing, which means you'll tend to stay at a comfortable level. Paid app removes that so you can challenge yourself.

Fun and improves my skill. Worth the small $.
- adaviding · v2026.04.18
The training mode shows me the error of my ways and suggests better moves with explanations
- BernyBberg · v2026.04.18
It would be great if you could play different openings by name. I’ve been using this app for years and it’s the greatest. You can play against the computer and work your way up the Elo difficulty ladder. You can save games and import games to watch and learn. I do wish that the developer would create a set of PGN lessons to import. I would buy a lesson plan to help learn specific openings and strategies. But even just as is Chess Pro is the Best!

There’s no advance information
- 🥹😇😊 · v2026.04.18
If you are just playing casually then of course this helps but if you were trying to be as good as a pro this is NOT the app for you. It sometimes gives wrong suggestions that it shouldn’t be giving. I can see better more professional moves than this app could. Rarely it will show some pro moves like sacrifices but very rarely.
- AbyssGnasher · v2026.04.18
Has interesting Master/tournament games. Wish it had search features to help select which players, year, location you want to see. I highly recommend this app!

I love this game of chess. From beginner to master , I’m trying to reach master .
- Ton-5 · v2026.04.18
Great flexibility for alternating positions and modifying game modes. Excellent learning tool. My compliments to the creators.
- Roscoe97 · v2026.04.18
The trainer can be told to play at an ELO rating which is great to improve against the players you play in the real world.

Love it

The latest update isn’t working. Every day for the last few days, it shows that it needs an update and I update it and it doesn’t update.
- Dad13579 · v2026.04.18
I had played the free version for a while and then decided to pay the $10.00 for the pro version. I enjoyed the pro version until I decided to do the lessons. After learning the pieces and how they move there is a $4.99 charge to complete the lessons. This charge is deceptive and dishonest, there is no mention of this additional charge when paying for the pro version. Totally ruined a good experience I purchased the app before the lessons were added so I had no idea that there would be a charge. If there was a notice that after a trial (or a set number of lessons) there would be a charge I would not have felt deceived.

28 March 2026 Saturday 6:43 AM MST First tried their free version for months, then purchased the Pro. Waited to long for the upgraded Version of Pro, which is excellent for help and feedback of learning Chess these recent months. Recommend to purchase the Pro version without hesitation too be able and learn the game of Chess faster. Paul in Phoenix, Arizona
- ButtHoleSurfingArizona · v2025.11.02
Purchased for $14.99 only to discover you have to pay for additional lessons beyond piece movement. No mention of having “in app purchases”. Save your money, it’s a rip-off!

Just take ‘em
- Briangcue · v2025.11.02
This is the best chess game in the universe!!!!!
- ruberdi · v2025.11.02
Best purchase I’ve ever made!
- BigTechSucksMyNuts · v2025.11.02
This app works with no internet, which can be important when spending time where there is no reliable internet, ie on commercial airlines. Chess.com is also great, but needs an internet connection, and so loses some points for not making their engines available for offline play.
- RonDycks · v2025.11.02
I’ve had this game On my phone for years and it never gets tiring. Playing with the tutor is the best of both worlds: playing solo or playing guided. From any position, I work out my next move, then tap suggestions to see what the computer might do. It typically offers multiple options, though some are better than others. They I compare my thinking with these suggestions and find the best path forward. It really works to improve your game.
- Blowingsky · v2025.11.02
If only this shortage of stars would subside, perhaps I would give 8-9 stars…
- Bobbyphysher · v2025.11.02
The app is great in its free version. Paid version provides some evaluation but no real tutoring or insight into opening, mid-game, or endgame strategies. The paid lessons are basic intro to chess stuff and virtually worthless.
- Gus450 · v2025.11.02
The Lesson Section is Welcome EXCEPT it has to be done linearly, NO SKIPPING ALLOWED. OPENING SCREENSHOT- Saying it’s inelegant is being KIND!!
- AviSaint · v2025.11.02
The game orientation is landscape and it can’t be changed in the iPad, it’s so annoying, why not just allow portrait with no distractions??????
- Reymago · v2025.11.02
Excellent for learning chess. I enjoy playing
- linbrie · v2025.11.02
They offer an emmersive, learn by doing environment. they claim that in essence, no mere mortal can stand before them when their full power is unleashed. it is terrible. it is like a firehouse.
- tutor ted · v2025.11.02
This app was a one time investment for me, and the over 5000 chess lessons/suggestions make it well worth it!
- Big Big Luker · v2025.11.02
Great fun and a challenge. Great for passing time and improving your game. A great training app.
- Randypy2 · v2025.11.02
I am learning a lot. I love the tips, and trying to figure out why it’s giving me those tips.
- TeriWood · v2025.07.10
I won! I appreciate the applause, this game it is a good habit to stack.
- Avilaguna · v2025.07.10
App will sometime freeze during game requiring computer to be restarted
- Tickoop · v2025.07.10
Very good game!
- Michael (Black Angel) · v2025.07.10
I find it a good teacher, it eveluates you’r games and shows you where you went wrong or where you made a good move.
- vanhuepschueten · v2025.07.10
Endlessly Fun game. I’ve gotten better. I really enjoy unraveling the puzzles that arise by perfecting an attack or a defense by rewinding to key positions and trying different lines.
- jbbson · v2025.07.10
This app was so helpful and literally got me to the national chess championship and it gives hints, tips, and tricks and it was the best decision ever. Got to get it. 🤩
- KayDub223 · v2025.07.10
Great app, lots of ways to learn, and fun approach
- Wackest1 · v2025.07.10
Good workout for the brain
- Will 5196 · v2025.07.10
I’m enjoying the app and slowly improving. I like the analysis stuff and that I can go back moves to try a different approach. the interface is nice but wish I had more context sometimes, in particular for why a move was a bad one. It’s not always apparent, for newer players, who something was or wasn’t good choice and the analysis isn’t always clear on the ‘why’. Oh and no ads which is great. Would buy again.
- DV8EDD · v2025.07.10
This is a great app for playing offline chess with zero tracking! The only improvements I would make is adding an accuracy measurement for games and a Chess960 version.
- Happystab · v2025.07.10
This App made me fall in love with Chess all over again—best $10.00 investment for me in this decade. If there is a better Chess App in the App Store, someone has yet to create it.
- AintGotNoNickNames · v2025.07.10
$10 seemed a little steep when I bought the app but I had a lot of fun with the free version and more with the pro. I feel a little better with chess and it’s fun to look back at your games and see how far you’ve grown.
- ChessHater · v2025.07.10
I've already learned a lot through the app's use of suggested moves, threats by the computer opponent, and analysis of the games I've played, and the offline capabilities of all this makes it five stars against the competition. However, the menu and interface is a bit painful by 2025 app standards. Low-resolution backgrounds, pieces, and buttons aren't as slick as the competition. I keep the piece set on Flat, board to Grey, and background to Dark, but some of those backgrounds and pieces look like they were clearly made in the late 2000s and never replaced. (I'm looking at you, Metal and Wood pieces. Same to you, Wood 2 and Marble boards.) But still, I will keep coming back to this app versus the others because it's a one-time payment for some great features, letting you know how to improve your game, something that's locked behind subscriptions on other apps. I just hope that improving the look of the app is on the roadmap.

Love it! Learning a lot with the suggestions mode!
- KTO505@ ABQ · v2025.05.22
Want to learn and be challenged this is the best low cost chess app around. My game has improved tenfold.
- Cha9619 · v2025.05.22
Update: still garbage Compare to any other, including Lichess and Chess.com, and these bots are not coded accurately. Seriously bad.
- TAShows · v2025.05.22
This chess game, as much as it sounds like I’m whining, feels like it cheats badly! It says it plays at an 800 ELO rating but it feels more like you’re playing a grandmaster than an average player. It’s frustrating! I regret buying it!
- nodamnedavailablenicknames · v2025.05.22
I’ve used plenty of Chess Apps. Chess Tiger Pro is the best one out there. Loaded with features!
