Lords of Waterdeep is a strategy board game, set in the D&D world of Waterdeep.
Wizards of the Coast and Playdek present the award-winning Dungeons & Dragons board game Lords of Waterdeep! Welcome to Waterdeep, the City of Splendors! A city run by a secret society of masked Lords who rule with shady back-door dealings and unmatched political power. In Lords of Waterdeep players will play as one of these masked Lords and will need to recruit adventurers to go out and complete quests for them. The more quests they complete, the more control and influence they have over the city. Players can expand the city by purchasing buildings that will open up new opportunities within the city walls. Intrigue cards can be used to help the player and may also either help or hinder their fellow Lords in their quest to become the supreme ruler of Waterdeep! Lords of Waterdeep is a turn-based strategy game played in 8 rounds and can be played against AI or with up to 5 human players. Players take turns assigning their agents to do their bidding, whether it is to recruit new adventurers to their tavern or purchase a new building for the city. Points and resources are gained by completing quests, playing Intrigue cards, constructing new buildings or having other players utilize the buildings you have constructed. At the end of the 8 rounds bonus points are awarded and the player with the most points at the end wins the game. Perfect
- Simo Lemiläinen · v2.1.13
An Awesome adaptation of the classic boardgame. Well worth the money paid. Game interface is intuitive and simplistic but still brings all you need to your fingertips in 1 or 2 clicks. Play on a Tablet advised phone too small. UPDATE - Have bought both expansions which are well worth the cost and having played with both, Awesome. Adds so much to game. Only 1 niggle... i win 9/10 vs 2x AI on top level. They don't seem to grasp corruption concept. Still playing aug 2026. Still great, apart from ai
- MARK · v2.1.13
faithful adaptation of the boardgame with decent AI and UI. If you haven't played it, the original boardgame is an above average entry in the worker placement genre, with simple rules and smart design.
- Timothy Azarchs · v2.1.13
Awesome game. But notifications don't work
- Lasse Aagren · v2.1.13
would like a refund because the game is not like dungeons & dragons at all. it was totally badly illustrated and represented
- Caleb · v2.1.13
Worked well until recently. For some reason, in the last few months, whenever I finish a game, it will not let me press the final green button to complete the offline game. So I've got several games stuck "in play."
- Kuri889 · v2.1.13
Great Game, have loved it for years. Fixed the notification issue and adjusted my rating.
- Chad Sullivan · v2.1.13
I wish I had, I would play it's game.
- bhagavan marroquin · v2.1.13
meh, at best. scam at worst. play was laggy and jumpy. 12 bucks US for everything and not a great game. skip it
- Way Toofazt
i already paid for the DLCs but upon reinstalling on my new phone, it says i need to buy it again. Customer support would only reply after a few days/weeks and their questions kept on repeating.
- Edgar Joseph Bocar · v2.1.13
Very fun. Highly recommend, especially if you can get a few friends together to play.
- Frank Fraumeni · v2.1.13
I can no longer end a game. The game ignores the green arrow to end the game normally. Not only can I end a game, I can't forfeit either. Uninstalling this buggy mess. I don't know what happened to this game.
- Jonah Falcon (The Jonah Falcon Show)
Played this game constantly until landscape UI came out. Bigger phones over the last few years make the experience slightly better but it’s still much harder to see things than it used to be. This UI is map for a PC or IPad and is not mobile focused. Results speak for themselves. There are only about 20 open game’s, rarely do they get filled. On one hand, I’m grateful/surprised this game is even still supported. But when I play it’s a struggle to play efficiently. I guess it only gets updates because it’s consistent with other platforms, but I kinda wish it weren’t here to taunt me anymore. This game used to be portrait. The game board and every individual card in the game is portrait, so this made sense. But not we have to view it all on landscape forcing you to zoom in on everything.
- Tpudewe · v2.1.13.163
can't even get through the tutorial... wouldn't recommend
- Logan 8 · v2.1.13
excellent d and d board game
- Bored Gamer · v2.1.13
app will not function. says to update. no update available.
- Tom Zuck · v2.1.12
I’ve been playing this game for the last 5+ years regularly on an iPhone mini. I think it has its flaws (completely resetting if you look at a phone notification, I’ve had friends unable to create new accounts, game notification badge indicators disappearing when you open the app but don’t take a turn) but was otherwise an amazing game. Which leads me to: I’m not sure why the developer has changed the user interface on the game instead of fixing those core bugs. I can no longer see my intrigue cards without tapping on them and the quest cards no longer show the plot effect without tapping either (and are honestly overwhelmingly large now). The changes to quests seem nice for someone with vision issues, but make the game harder to play for me. Please either make these changes a setting that users can opt into or revert them, thank you!
- Abolstery · v2.1.13.163
Since updating to iOS 26, this game has no options for notifications. Please fix.
- rainmaker100200 · v2.1.12 (159)
just not a good port for a phone. the fonts are microscopic. pretty impossibLe to form a winning strategy when you're just randomLy fumbLing through because you can't read anything.
- sPiRaL aRchiTeCt · v2.1.12
I love this game, but please, please, please add app notifications so we know when it's our turn in online games!!!!! Emails are not always being seen
- Neil McGregor · v2.1.12
put this game down to 2 stars as every time I turn on the phone the message about that the game has stopped working please close the app bug is still there, even though the game was closed. had to uninstall as the game slowed down my phone
- Mark Shipton · v2.1.11
excellent game
- Jo Reed · v2.1.11
I really love this game, so many strategy and intrique, the expansion make the game far better, corruption element also make the plot unpredictable.. The graphic, the music, and art, everything i love it..
- Yondi Laksana · v2.1.11
I just don't like the online timer. was on with a friend, taking short turns, when I was informed that I forfeited while my opponent was making a choice as an Intrigue card resolved. And I was ahead, too. Love the game, the zoom, the indicators, the avatars, the music, the art, the animation, the AI players, etc.
- Roger Dunn · v2.1.11
We used to play it all the time with a-sync, but the game no longer sends notifications when it's your turn so we had to give it up. If that feature comes back we'll all play it again
- Braden · v2.1.11
I wish other board game adaptations were more like this. Zooming in to see card text on small phones works smoothly. Every action that doesn’t reveal new information has an undo option, solving the challenges of a small interface. The whole game is bug-free in solo play against AI, which is how I usually play it. I just wish we could get even more difficult AI.
- hoover411 · v2.1.9
Was 5 Stars but as of Sep 2025 it crashes on tapping the green button to play online.
- Peter Brownlow · v2.1.11
good game easy to learn too nice ambient game has intrigue rogues fighters strategy all set in a D and D world the expansions are great and open new opportunities yes download you won't be disappointed
- Michael Schmidt · v2.1.10
The game remains great to play, but don’t count on receiving notifications for your turn if you’re an android player. The game receives updates pretty often, but never addresses this. The developer knows this is an issue, yet never addresses it.
- Thunder_Chicken · v2.1.9
Solid strategy-luck game.
- Joshua Davis · v2.1.10
love the game but no moderation for online chat makes it very toxic and racist. notifications also haven't worked for a few years now.
- Chad B · v2.1.10
Great game plus the extensions are only a couple of pounds each. well worth it.
- DOM9N9C · v2.1.10
Haven't been able to receive notifications for quite some time. Severely hampers ability to play online
- themaddingus k · v2.1.10
Great game, but a new bug: I can't click the green "confirm" at the end of a game, and have to force close the app! Would be 5 Stars.
- Brandon Sperger · v2.1.10
We love this game. what are the things we love about? It is that we don’t have to get all of the pieces out for the actual board game when we use it on the iPad. And it keeps track of our progress and the abilities our cards give us without us having to remember for ourselves. convenience and fun!
- Forhowmuch · v2.1.9
Best board game of all time.
- Tiffany Richardson
Good game.
- Earth Warrior · v2.1.10
Simple, and works well. Can't ask for much more.
- Sean Treacy · v2.1.10
There's a ton of board games that have been digitized but fell short from their original physical games. This isn't one of them. Lord of Waterdeep is a great game in it's own right. I thought that it wouldn't live up to the physical game but I stand corrected. Very well done to the developers. It's worth every penny (or centavo--I live in the Philippines).
- Orion Blues · v2.1.10
Annoying that you can’t add AI to online games. It’s not as fun with only 2 payers and I don’t want to play with random people
- kcrose324 · v2.1.9
Love the game, both the app and the IRL version. Dropped one star as the confirm button on the final screen doesn't work. This means I have to awkwardly quit out of the game and kill it in the active games list once the game ends.
- Mark Rennison · v2.1.10
A great app of a truly addictive game.It runs fluently and all game elements look clear. I recommend slowing down the animation speed to understand what's happening. Only thing I would point out is that buying the expansions leads to a buggy moment: play store 1-click buy button appears and then it switches back and forth between horizontal and vertical view, which I can only stop by exiting the game.
- Pablo V · v2.1.10
Great game, but oddly I can't "finish" the game anymore. I get the final score but when I hit the green arrow to complete the game and go to the lobby nothing happens anymore.
- Greg O · v2.1.10
Update the darn app for all the money you made from it please, just kee it playable for new devices soon it will drop support and what we’re gonna do look at our purchases and reminiscent?
- dgherastovschi · v2.1.9
On an iPhone 12 Pro Max, the text in this game is unreadable in the standard landscape format. There's no option to modify the UI, the text size, or the orientation. Sad too, because it looks like this game would be fun to play.
- Leericly · v2.1.9
do not spend your money on the android version. It will not open. buy the desktop version instead.
- Kris Coulson
I can't refund this game 😭 😫
- POOSANA SAHNGUANPHRRK · v2.1.10
The game is great and I even bought both expansion packs. My problem is that the game force forfeited me. Also, please add the option to use bots in online game. Game has bugs that need to be fixed.
- AB CD · v2.1.10
After last update , I am unable to use the app on my android device
- Mike Crowl · v2.1.10
Amazing board game. 👍
- craig david · v2.1.10
this game is mostly luck (i.e. drawing cards). Not to mention, one of the cards asks to return an assigned agent and reassigned it but it doesn’t let me pick the agent; i tried dragging the meepo back and clicking on different meepo but it doesn’t work. overall, pretty boring game, i would skip!
- Teeayecheyoh · v2.1.9
The play online feature sucks badly and it is impossible to play against anyone, seams like there are only 4 actual players always creating a game but joining is always too late as the players are afk or have given up on trying to play online. . The app is super slow when clicking on the X to close a menu canvas overlay and same with the accept arrow. Super long delay before anything happens. The actual gameplay is very easy and not balanced at all. Its all about luck of the draw. Meh
- Byron G · v2.1.10
This is nearly unplayable online. If I don’t complete my move in less than 10 seconds I almost always get the message “Network Connection Lost”
- LakeDude · v2.1.9
Not what I was expecting...wish I hadn't bought it
- richard cerda
Not what I expected... Was hoping for something more
- Dennis Rosianu · v2.1.10
Stinks this has to be uninstalled and reinstalled every time to just ay
- Aaron Plaskett · v2.1.2
I can't create account or reset password, therefore I can't play this online
- Darren Koo · v2.1.9
It works just like playing the board game with friends. But I don't get any notifications that it's my turn. I've emailed months ago and it still hasn't been fixed unfortunately. Lowering the start count because a simple fix for notifications hasn't been done in so many months now.
- Jake Money · v2.1.9
Fix notifications please. I love this game. It'd nice to be able to play with them without having to get them to message when it's my turn. No ability to toggle notifications anymore on app.
- Markus M · v2.1.9
Not a bad version of the board game. I just finished playing my second game with friends and I don't think we've run into any issues with the game itself and the way it runs. The UI takes some getting used to but it's okay, it's a complex game. The rating drop is because push notifications do not work, email works okay but isn't preferable and happens so much it started getting sent to spam. Also it's a bit annoying to have to log in every time you open the app, why not just do it automatically?
- Chris · v2.1.9
Is there a way at Cliffwatch Inn that the lord's mask could appear on the quests pertinent to the current player?
- Amy Adams · v2.1.9
Game is still fun. I have purchased all the expansions but find myself enjoying the base game the most. Playing with AI gets a little repetitive but gameplay is good.
- Zamayes · v2.1.9
This app is absolute junk. It doesn’t work. Interface is totally broken. Requested refund.
- Nikki the death doula · v2.1.9
Downloaded, created a login with playdek, freezes every time I try to login. Extremely frustrating.
- AJT123dopa · v2.1.9
This is our favorite game and we play it all the time. Now that we use the app, it is hard to go back to the board game, which is both a good and bad thing… but it gives us a great option for a faster game without having to manually collect and setup all the pieces. I think are some old reviews on here about an update that was buggy, but that is no longer the case imo
- Freeze36 · v2.1.9
Played this game for years when need some games I can drop out off at a moments notice and pick up later. Enjoy the adons. For me it’s a solo game. Ai best to play several at different levels. Relaxing. PvP is too slow so don’t expect that.
- Scarfskin · v2.1.9
Works well on the iPad mini. Always liked this game.
- NovaMan · v2.1.9
Love this adaptation of the board game! Do have one request that would really tie into the D&D realm. Would love a section in the settings or main menu that gives the lore and history of Waterdeep, or in the card section of the main menu have each card have a lore summary/history about it. Hope that makes sense and thanks!
- Ncraximus · v2.1.9
I was lucky to have come to the game late, but I did play it in the portrait orientation. I think if you pay attention to your hand and the game it’s a non issue. I think this game is a blast.
- Hubris McHater · v2.1.6
It seemed weird that a Dungeons & Dragons game didn’t feature you fighting in combat directly. But this game has grown on me. It’s a “euro” style boardgame that’s digitized so you can play solo against AI opponents. I enjoy playing the role of a cunning lord trying to gain power and influence in a city against other lords, using adventurers as a kind of weird “human currency” to achieve quests. I find it much more fun than playing chess to while away time when I am waiting or just want to exercise my mind.
- Avnrk · v2.1.6
Practically impossible to drag your worker/agent onto the game board. Bummer because it used to be a pretty fun game.
- M52950 · v2.1.6
Good game, been playing constantly for years. Agree with the others that the Landscape board was not an improvement. But what kills me is that the Notifications simply don't work. Yes, it annoys me that once a game ends I get no notification, and it disappears entirely from the active games, so I have to go hunting for it- but the app being unable to simply notify a player it is their turn is the worst. We have to maintain a chat on Signal just to update each other on whose turn it is now. Speaks well to the game that we still play constantly. I have full faith this can be fixed, so please do.
- Phroob · v2.1.6
The original implementation of this game was infinitely better. This mew version is buggy. The controls are so difficult on a small screen. The game doesn't always calculate the end score correctly. Its just bad.
- Gino G · v2.1.6
Used to have expansions. They taken away.
- pp876775 · v2.1.6
Letters are too small to read on iPhone. Waste of money. I was really looking forward to this. So disappointing.
- Sooneyroo · v2.1.5
I purchased this game 2 months ago. Had all the expansions included. I really enjoyed it, until last week when it was updated and now I only have the basic game and am prompted to pay and additional fee for each expansion. Not cool!!! Rating due to that fact, otherwise the app and game itself are awesome
- Vcole07 · v2.1.5
After latest update in the last 3 games of 3 player online play, the game first kicks a player out and an automated player takes over, then forces a forfeit for the next player, leaving 1 player standing. Not fun. Fix this issue.
- osia72 · v2.1.5
When I originally purchased the game one of the things that sold me on it was that it came with the expansions. Having played the original I knew that without them the game was pretty boring. After the most recent update the expansions went away. When I submitted a ticket I was told that getting the expansions with the original game was “a bug” that had been fixed. Just know that if you buy the game you’re going to need to spend another 4 bucks to get a decent game.
- Judge Colin · v2.1.5
This is my favorite game but since the last update I’m unable to play. I can’t find anywhere so that the update is an option for me. And there doesn’t seem to be any customer or player support options. App support just takes me to a page to buy other apps. Nothing about this app. What the heck!?
- Sammybaby85 · v2.1.5
Good game but was better before the update
- Brony004 · v2.1.5
Recent update wiped purchased expansions and the restore purchases button does nothing. Cannot finish in-progress, timed games using expansion content.
- Mad Scientist Alex · v2.1.5
The latest update has made the AI turns intolerably slow. The game is no longer playable. Please fix this
- 84268426842684 · v2.1.5
The new update removed my expansions purchases. So I have buy it again? That seems sus. Can we fix this please?
- Jazzyvb5 · v2.1.5
Same Waterdeep from ages past.... but they stole portrait mode. This game was made for portrait mode. Portrait mode is perfection. Now we have mediocrity. Contrast to a game like Ticket to Ride and see the genius and utility of portrait mode; a thing of beauty and symmetry on the iPad. Buy this game if you like Waterdeep and can snag it for $1....But beware, you will still lament the loss of portrait mode.
- Canuck223344 · v2.1.5
After updating the app to the newest version both of my expansion purchases are gone. Clicking the Restore Purchases button does nothing. Please fix!!!
- Bribo1999 · v2.1.5
This is not a 3.1 star implementation of a board game (avg rating as I write this)…it’s a 5 star implementation. I get it’s not great on iPhones, but it rocks on the iPad, in particular for multiplayer. Other player actions are always very clear. The UI is sharp. Graphics are spot-on. If you like the board game, buy the app.
- AlienJake · v2.1.2
until they removed all support for playing this game in portrait mode. I just don’t enjoy it any more. I figured they would see the error of their ways, but nope. Developers don’t care that it’s junk now, because there’s cross-platform multiplayer! 🙄
- deviantnick · v2.1.2
UPDATE : For all the reviews stating this game is playable on iPhone, they are clearly Playdek paid reviewers. This game was literally the best game on iOS, hands down, and was ruined in a single update which took a game which plays in portrait format in its physical game, played perfectly on iPhone in portrait, and changed it to landscape. The game is barely playable compared it’s it’s original format. Any review stating otherwise, as it relates to mobile, it’s a straight up lie. Do not be fooled. From 5 stars to 1 star: I no longer play this game. What was once my favorite game on iOS, has become a game I can’t stand. The new format makes the game unplayable. It’s truly horrible. The physical game is a portrait designed game. It used to be well displayed as the game was originally designed by the manufacturer. The text and game pieces were very easy to see. The new format changed the game to landscape, you can’t even see the whole map on a phone, you now have to zoom in and scroll around. They added the most stupid 3D effect like google maps which makes the scrolling completely jacked up because the map not only zooms in but changes orientation. The text is now minuscule or even blurry. All in all, they completely ruined the best game on iOS. Who ever decided this direction should be fired, and they should revert the game back to how it worked before, or at minimum allow players to choose which format they prefer. I have not played 1 match since the change, and will not play a single match as long as this format is the only way to play. Back to playing only when friends are around to enjoy the physical game. Want to see what I had to say about the game prior to the format change? Read below.... THIS WAS MY REVIEW PRIOR TO FORMAT CHANGE: This is one of my all time favorites, either as digital or as print. The artwork is fantastic, the gameplay spot on, the multiplayer ridiculous fun. The game is one of the best you will find, if you have any love of board games. The game is definitely more enjoyable on an iPad, but plays fantastic on an iPhone as well. I've played several hundred multiplayer matches, in different formats, and the game is just as enjoyable as it was when I bought it. I highly recommend the purchase of the expansions, as it adds tons of new options, and you can play with one or both enabled at the same time. My only wishes for the game - I would love for tracking wins/losses versus individual players, not just as an aggregate. I would love for there to be a social option, if you wanted to communicate with your opponent. There are individual players I play against so consistently, they are almost like friends now. We constantly have games against each other. Anyway, buy the game and meet me online! It's awesome!
- DarcSparc · v2.1.2
There are many negative reviews because of a UI change that was made many years ago. It is too bad there isn’t an option to change it for people who preferred the old UI. I don’t know what the old UI looked like, but I haven’t had any issues playing this on my iPhone. It’s been great for asynchronous games with my friends. I’m sure they appreciate me getting my turns done more quickly as well.
- ItsMerts · v2.1.2
I honestly tried to play this game and it was just a waste of time. It was like watching paint dry. Deleted it within 30 min
- Darkside12 · v2.1.2
Portrait mode was how this game was meant to be played. When portrait mode is added back in as an option for mobile players, I will set my rating to 5 stars. Until then..
- vid ICARUS · v2.1.1
I have played lords of the Waterdeep on my iPad for over three years now. I love playing the game because I don’t have anyone around me who likes or wants to play strategy games. So this electronic version is an awesome way for me to play. I am working on getting my niece and her husband set up so we can have our own game. I have never had any problems with any hitches any glitches everything works everything does what it supposed to. I love it and recommend it for anybody who likes a good fun strategy game.
- AFHands · v2.1.1
Great port of an awesome game. On the iPhone is actually how I learned the game and then went out and bought the physical game. If playing on iOS, Its better on an iPad but you can manage on iPhone if you have good vision or glasses. If I had one complaint, I wish on iPhone cards could be tapped and made larger as the font is so small. Still, a great game I keep coming back to time and time again. I play vs AIs mainly and I find them challenging and competitive. Recommend if you like worker placement games and/or D&D. This is my favorite worker placement as the theme rocks.
- Babysaygorays · v2.1.1
This is my favorite board game and me and many others would love to see it come to Nintendo switch. I hope it happens : )
- Mr fixeruper · v2.0.4
Came back to the game recently and was very surprised that the UI has been overhauled and is back to landscape mode. The old UI was really bad and I’m very glad that it’s gone now.
- 3599830 · v2.1.1
The app lets you play the game, and that’s great. But the user interface is surprisingly terrible, as if the author set out to make the worst UI on the iOS store. * on the game select screen, buttons are rendered *on top of* other UI elements making it impossible to read the text underneath or tap buttons that are now obscured from view * when ingame, all of the custom buildings are clustered *on top of each other* huddled in a tiny column on the right side of the screen, while giant swaths of unused screen real estate are left wide open on the left side of the screen * when a game finishes, it disappears. It doesn’t tell you who won or who lost. You have to dig into inactive games in order to find any stats about the game you just finished playing Despite the developers’ successful attempt at making the most frustratingly-difficult app on the iOS store, it does allow you to successfully play a game of Waterdeep so at least that’s something.
- Miek18829 · v2.1.1

The game worked really well when it was built in portrait mode. After they switched to deploying the same version they deploy for Mac and pc this game just suffers. It is so much harder to play on a phone. iPad might be okay I would not recommend anyone to buy this version of the game.
- Pterofractal · v2.1.0
While you can play this game in single player mode, the active online multiplayer community is where this game really shines. Simply terrific fun!
