i changed this review to thank square for at least increasing its fps to 30 and adding spanish and german and italian now more people can enjoy this game i would give this a 5 if voice acting was added beyond that i do like this game
- Galaad Edominus · v1.2.3
if people actually pay attention they would know this isn't a port from US release but a port from the original Japanese (Japanese didn't care for voice acting during this time) and used everything from the Original Japanese version including the synthesized music, it was the US version where they added voice acting and orchestral music, and the 3DS version used the US version but for some reason they used the Japanese version for phone.
- Aaron Palmer · v1.2.4
absolute slog fest. this in now the third one of this game series I tried and just like the others, it is a painful slogfest. whilst I appreciate this series helped pave the way for jrpg I cannot fathom how it remains to be popular in the modern era.
- Ramchunk · v1.2.4
Edit 6/26: They finally improved the performance! Runs smoothly, looks great, and is just a terrific entry in the series. Previously it was nearly unplayable with super slow fps, but finally it feels like it's been given some attention
- James · v1.2.4
it's awesome as I remember. yeah the voice acting missing stinks but it's got all the bones of the masterpiece.
- Daniel Armstrong · v1.2.4
why did you remove multi window functionality? literally went out of your way to make a perfectly working game worse for no reason
- Reinhard Von Lohenngram · v1.2.4
Guess they upgraded the fps, but they removed the voice acting, its not the same game anymore, not worth buying it, better go download the modded version of the game.
- Red Glint · v1.2.4
Edit: upon replaying in 2026, this now runs great and is a great way to play a great game. Old Review: Fun game with decent controls. Frame rate is capped at something like 20fps so the whole thing feels very choppy even on my high end phone and tablet. Wait for a deep sale or buy on another platform.
- Aaron McDaid · v1.2.4
playing it in 2026, i was a bit scared the game wouldn't run smoothly or he crashing, but after couple of days playing, the game feels amazing
- Vitalij Krylov · v1.2.4
this game would be perfect if it had landscape mode. vertical play for this dragon quest entry, is downright painful.
- Eric Farley
no voice acting
- Alejandro Hernandez · v1.2.4
UPDATE: Changed my rating from 3 out of 5 stars because a solid 30 frames a second from the last update made the game feel much better to play. If they could just add in shadows and voice acting it would be a definitive experience on mobile for modern. phones.
- Patrick · v1.2.4
This is the worst way to experience this game, but if it's your only option...I can recommend it.
- Ben Hurst · v1.2.4
While the HD Mobile Remaster mod is no longer installable anymore, thanks to Google being awful, this is still a fantastic port. Even better now that it finally runs at 30fps.
- Quandrix Twincaster · v1.2.4
nice
- Ryan Tung · v1.2.4
the voice acting is gone and i cant figure out how to skip videos but it takes me back
- Kenny Gross · v1.2.3
this game requires network in order to launch, if using piracy is illegal , so should be this network requirement for a singleplayer game, use piracy, do not buy this or you'll regret it.
- Caco Entertainment · v1.2.3
I like that game, kindly please work on the DQ8 3Ds. I really hope it can be played by phones ASAP
- Mohammad Shaker · v1.2.3
I just beat this game and it was one of the best games I have ever played! The controls and graphics are great! Excellent story that will stay with you! definitely get this game!!!!
- Justin Rawlins · v1.2.3
Best DQ game on Android. Miss the voices but gameplay, story and controls are superb.
- Filipe Silva
it's a good game but nothing really improve since released on mobile. 1. can only play in portrait 2. hard to turn around 3. low framerate 4. cannot use external controller. this will fix (2.) if you can use controller 5. character has no voice is ok but you should add orchresta already. even if not 3ds version. if possible at least this should be like ps2 western version
- Jatuporn Vongveravut · v1.2.3
exactly what you look for in an RPG, remaster soon!
- Nate · v1.2.3
Look I love DQ and Square Enix and I hate leaving a 1 star review but youre better off emulating this game with azahar (3ds version) or nethersx2 (ps2 version) . The low frame rate mixed with no controller support is sad. The game is very solid with such a beautiful lovely story but this port is sad. Square please fix this please Id much rather leave you a 5 star and hype this app but no controller support is just buns
- BigDaddyZ Tha Doughboy · v1.2.1
Played through the entire thing to nearly 100 percent completion and had all characters to level 99. On my phone. I wouldn't have played a game for that long on a phone if it wasn't a 5/5 star game. DQ8 is legendary. The save system is perfect.I didn't care that there was no voice acting and the music wasn't orchestral, the experience was good enough as is.
- JeffH · v1.2.3
there's someone out there who this is for but it's not me.
- Tyler
played it n didn't get finish itcuz last tablet was stolen
- Andy Mihalus · v1.2.3
THANK YOU! This was always one of my absolute favorites from when it was released on PS2! I really appreciate you all fixing the gameplay. Works wonderfully, excellent work!
- William Aldine · v1.2.3
great game
- Benjamin marc Smith · v1.2.3
Big problem! The mobile version has a bug. A major side quest that includes meeting Cameron in port prospect to retrieve the camera is glitched. He's simply not there. And you need this quest to progress later in the game. Meaning you can't can't even finish to the end. Sad!
- MOXXIE · v1.2.3
Great port of the original. The only gripe is the lack of the voice acting, which to be fair was and still is the best I've ever seen in any game. As it is, it's fantastic. Still the same game, easy enough to get used to the interface being touch screen. The gameplay is untouched. Thankfully it's a port of the original ,not the DS version, so no unnecessary running around taking "photos", just good old DQ battling and alchemy crafting. As it should be. In a word?....SPIFFING!!!
- Craig Walker · v1.2.3
im dissapointed because hero doesn't have super saiyan hair when 100 tension 😭 n doesn't have v.a also 😢
- ERROR 404 · v1.2.3
so excellent, dont know what people here are talking about with negative reviews, talking utter nonsense. sure its missing a few things, but being able to play this with one hand is just absolute perfection, truly, truly perfection, I would buy this game again if I could just to support the ideas they put into this, it rocks, super awesome port that you can just jam to with one hand.
- YaYAbIsCiT · v1.2.3
updated review!!! devs fixed the crashes thanks for that l!! asking for a update to add the gear appearance changes like the console versions and possibly more weapons and gear!!! great game as is 4 stars if the gear updates happen I will change to 5.
- Brittany Elizabeth · v1.2.3
good game
- Carlos Reyes
Completed Everything. Loved it 10/10 how i remembered the game was and didn't disappoint. Developers loved their games bk then and added so much bonus content/endgame quests n dungeons. Best in the franchise I'd say and its not even close. Er was a few time i crashed and one time over n over in a certain area so i had to upload my cloud save then delete/reinstall game to fix it (luckily was only a side area ya didn't have to goto tho.Hopefully doesn't happen to anyone but aye GoodLuck n have fun
- Thee “Romanov Gorbachev”
One of the best dragon quest games, and one of my favorite rpg's. Fairly easy to control on android, and it's a very faithful port. Worth every penny. Downloading it again to replay again. Love it as much as dragon quest 11, even if it's only half as long.
- Shawn Rand · v1.2.3
Voiceover acting may have been taken away, but the game is still the best with real world references.
- Brad Gibbs (Brad Hibbs) · v1.2.3
Not only is the soundtrack the neutered bit-crushed version instead of the orchestral one despite the fascist war crime denier who forced it to be so being dead but the voice acting is missing, the camera controls are terrible and the game is missing easy to implement improvements such as the ability to reset skill points (or proper descriptions for skills that don't mislead players). Overall despite the base game being amazing, this version is the worst way to play it and nowhere near worth £20
- William Mitchell · v1.2.3
I've yet to play a Dragon Quest game that I didn't enjoy!
- Rant Casey · v1.2.3
i cant select the weapon i just bought
- celly blade · v1.2.3
Awesome!!!
- Jake Clark · v1.2.2
Perfect Dragon Quest gaming moment. Get it. Runs smooth. Looks beautiful. Die happy.
- Tediz Jeff · v1.2.3
every time I load the game it crashes on me please fix ASAP please because I really do miss playing this game from my childhood and now I can't even get past the second download if I could I would give this a negative star
- John Beiler · v1.2.3
game won't even download when I open it
- flip locs
After 11 years, Square Enix finally decided to fix the framerate on Dragon Quest 8 on mobile from 10 FPS to 30 FPS runs way smoother WTG Square Enix and thank you.
- Jake Tibbetts · v1.2.3
Old but gold
- Stew · v1.2.2
Instantly crashes on launch, making it unplayable.
- Ryan Smith · v1.2.2
game will close immediately as I open it. I have a Samsung Fold 4
- Bluu_Olive · v1.2.2
it's not the greatest due to the fact we no longer have the voices and there are places where things get buggy . I'm giving this a 4 out of 5 due to the alchemy pot . In the original you can't get the best alchemy pot til after the end of the game but in this version you start off with the best alchemy pot . Things are created right away instead of waiting around til they're done like the original on the PlayStation .
- Ashley
great game. the music and voice acting was stellar, but they cut it out of the mobile version. still a good game, but rather play on the PS2 for the full experience.
- A Google user · v1.2.2
Thanks For The Role Playjng Game Add group! Now successful dragon quest 8 title and shown influence. bravo, into the action!
- Lee Black Flames · v1.2.2
I enjoyed the game until I upgraded my phone. it would be nice if Square Enix would make this game compatible with the S25.
- R0bo5haRk · v1.2.2
